I am forced to take a class called "Intro to Research" as it says in the class description "Students will become familiar with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Publisher." My teacher doesn't even know how to use PowerPoint. I can't wait until we get to Publisher!

Publisher ewwwwww! Start doing all your stuff in iwork, and tell everyone else you are just that good:D

CODE RED

Stop what your doing and follow the instructions.

Instructions:

1- Show no intreat in what's going on.
2- If asked, say that you don't know how to solve the problem (even if you do).
3- It will be apparent to you that you could help, don'! at any cost.
4- Act normal and show no intreats at this device they call a computer.

Failure to follow any of these instruction may cause of sever head ache and being called "The Tech Guy", please proceed at your own risk.

Being branded The Tech Guy at school is not a bad thing. The teachers will ask you when there are problems in class with the computer, and thus the teachers appreciate your presence in the class and thus the teacher is more likely to be more lenient on you if things come up in the future (being late to class or making some other mistakes) because they know they need you to be willing to help them :)

However, being labeled the Tech Guy in your family is the most irritating thing in the world. It literally becomes your family responsibility to serve your parents for every minor thing. My mom has decided to get in to running her business off a web site, which basically means she calls me to fix EVERYTHING anytime she wants to make a change, and spins a sob story about not being able to run a business and all the stuff she's done for me if I don't help, so I do. Plus I have to do all her Photoshop work.

(or even TechGirl) I spent a good part of the day after Christmas fixing computer problems at my parents' place of business, by myself one year, missing out on visiting with my sisters whom I hadn't seen in months. And there is nothing worse than being stuck in the home office fixing crap when everyone else is sitting around after Thanksgiving dinner... :(

Oh well, I just suck it up and deal with it. It pays off in the end...

Wow, I must be lucky with the teachers I got. If they didn't know how to use Powerpoint, I wouldn't be having classes. ;) All of the staff members have Dell notebooks, and everyone in the school has server space to store documents and stuff. So the teachers just put their notes and lessons on there and get them at the class they're in. Our teachers have become masters at the Smart Board. I still get a thrill writing on them. :D

I was "the" techie in highschool...I got out of class for 10-15 minutes atleast once a week to fix things, and sometimes got out of class for the entire day if some assembly or event was going on.

At college....eh...my psych professor put a program disk into the DVD/VHS player and then got pissed off because it wouldn't work.

You will all have to learn to live with the fact that some people aren't as good at some things as others are. I'm good with computers myself, but I couldn't wire a plug. I hope there are no electricians out there ranting about my lack of ability. I'm sure that in much the same way your Spanish teacher (same applies for any other subject, except IT) is really good at Spanish and that is what is really important. You can forgive a few silly computer mistakes.

When I went to school (and this was only 7 years ago) we never had anything like Powerpoint presentations so for a lot of teachers I am sure that they are new and unusual. If you have been teaching on a blackboard for 20 years you might not transition so well.

For the people who have complained about IT teachers, in this case you are completely in the right. They really should know what they are teaching or they have no business getting paid to teach it to you.
