Hi All,

First time poster but just did s search in the iPad thread but only found posts from 2016/17. I am a high school Maths teacher who has just upgraded from the 11 Pro to 12.9 Pro. I find this is my go to device in my classroom as use the pencil to work through examples and answer questions.

I have some go to apps but am interested in learning more. The department i work for uses the MS Office produces including Teams and OneNote. I find my iPad handles this well but I am always looking to improve my practice.

So hoping if there any teachers on here using the iPad in the classroom to add ideas etc here. There are some blogs but don’t find them as practical as I am using the iPad stand only mostly

Thanks

Do you use it with the Magic Keyboard?

Here’s how I use my 11” iPad Pro in school (primary school teacher).

File management - files are stored in Dropbox, and synced to documents so I can access them offline.

In class:

Notability holds all my teaching material. ipad is mirrored to the classroom projector via an Apple TV.

Scanner Pro - quickly convert paper documents into pdf soft copies.

LumaFusion - been creating screencasts during this HBL period and I use said app to make quick edits to my videos before publishing to YouTube.

Fantastical - start of the school term means more work, and while I initially shied away from said app due to its move to a subscription model, I find I still prefer it due to its support for natural language, which lets me quickly enter events.

Mail - I use the stock mail app.

What else do you use your ipad for?

Do you use it with the Magic Keyboard?

yes for typing but then take off for use with the pencil. I find I lay it over the keyboard as easier to write on.
I find my students like to write on it as well instead of answering questions on the board.

I use explain everything iOS app.
I think I got if for free when it first launched and only really started using it over the last year. Our school is using OneNote and I find the iPad is working great with it. I create/teach in explain everything then export as a PDF to the class onenote.
Not sure what else I need but am keen to see if there is anything I can learn to improve. Also a bit limited by what my department allows.

I am a foreign language teacher, and, since the title of the thread is spot on, I am piggybacking here.

Here is my situation. The district I am in uses Canvas as LMS. We are giving synchronous lessons via Zoom. We also have access to G Suite and many other Google chrome extensions. I am considering getting an iPad because of the touch screen and Apple Pencil, which I think will be very useful on virtual whiteboard and stuff.

As a public school teacher, I am also very much budget conscious. Is the basic iPad enough for remote teaching? I don't know how many teachers are out here, but I would love to hear their experience of remote teaching with iPad.

Thanks!

During our Lockdown, I used my IPP 12.9 as my main teaching device. We used Teams Calls to students which worked great for the video and screen sharing. Only issue is you cannot have the screen sharing and Chat open at same time.

As I said before I use an app called Explain Everything - the iOS version. It is great and can record it’s screen, insert pictures, webpages etc. There are other teachers that used just the 6 Gen iPad with a pencil. It really depends on how you work and if you are willing to learn a new work flow.
