The Plot Thickens...

So perhaps the phone supports CDMA and GSM which is probably why Apple don't want the FCC to release the approval specifications for 28 days...

32GBytes is really 29.80GB in binary

The teardown notes that the capacity is 29.06GB.

If you take 32,000,000,000 bytes (32GB) and divide it by 1024 three times (1024MB, 1024KB, 1024B), you'll get 29.80GB... iFixit mentions that they saw 29.06GB of space left. Does that mean iOS4 is 0.72GB? That's a large OS!!!

I can't wait to get mine.. i am also interested to see them blend this sucker. blend that iphone 4!! wohoo. I really hate they do it to apple's products but i wonder how this one will stand up the it..

dang rcandre2 you beat me too it!!

the list has now been removed from both iFixit and the catalogue at chipworks - definitely feels like a false alarm (but exciting for half an hour :D )

Step 17 at iFixIt.com says the following...

Step 17
Triquint TQM613029 CDMA PA-Duplexer Module.
Avago FEM7758 Front End Module
Triquint TQM13029 CDMA PA
Atmel M88PA MCU with eFlash
Silicon Image P1U0941 HDMI Processor
Samsung KBY00U00VM NAND Flash

Um, why does it say CDMA? Shouldn't it say GSM? Is this CDMA capable? AT&T is GSM. Or is this some weird other CDMA part?

Just curious as to what I am missing. Or are they wrong? Or what?

They just truncated the name, WCDMA is the tech paired with GSM to provide high speed download and upload packet access (HSDPA/HSUPA), the so-called 3G network for ATT and T-Mobile.

A note: it's not a physical hard drive with bogus market decimal powers. So it's not 32,000,000,000.

Flash memory chips come the same as all memory chips... in powers of two: 32GB = 2^35 = 34,359,738,368 bytes

Apple seems to deliberately ignore some of that space, however. My guess is that it's partly because something like 10% of each Flash device's memory can be missing from the factory and still pass quality control. (It's the only way to get less expensive memory yield.) Can you imagine the marketing backlash if your friend had the full 32GB but your unit only showed 30GB?

I really want to know if this has dual GSM and CDMA? That would be the biggest news ever. I have to believe it's a mistake or it doesn't really mean CDMA, LOL.

I do not think that word means what you think it means.

Wikipedia (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Code_division_multiple_access) said:
division multiple access (CDMA) is a channel access method utilized by various radio communication technologies. It should not be confused with the mobile phone standards called cdmaOne and CDMA2000 (which are often referred to as simply CDMA), which use CDMA as an underlying channel access method.
lolz :)

iFixIt also pointed out the magnetometer in the iPhone 4 is supposed to be a newer, more accurate one than in the 3GS. Might want to add that to the front page.

It's probably cheaper for Apple to make one iPhone back that can go on either phone than two the have to be specially marked.

Yeah, I posted about that awhile ago. Still, it's been on every iProduct since the original iPod, so it's sad to see it go.

Ok I was wrong, it was a CDMA chip incorrectly posted, not WCDMA. This from the author "That CDMA information was incorrectly copied from a different report. My apologies; it has been removed.
