I knew that going in and I don't regret upgrading from an S4. AOD is great in work situations but I can definitely see where it's not worth the upgrade to many people.

also the fact the s5 chip has no speed improvements is a no sale from me
are you dissatisfied with the speed of the s4? What is it slow at?

Not really how hard is it to touch the screen or move it to look at it
Not “hard,” but in a meeting, pretty inconvenient. During a workout, potentially pretty inconvenient. It’s especially a big deal for people who wear their watch on the inside of their wrist because raise to wake doesn’t work correctly in that position.

I was actually hoping this would happen, as the S4 prices have dropped already.

Bought an aluminium S4 last week for £340 from BT and haven’t looked back.

no one in the real world will ever think wait a need a compass lol such a silly feature

Hey man, speak for yourself and I can't wait for night mode on my new 11. /s

That said, there will be some people that really use it and getting better directional abilities in the watch is needed as they gradually make it more and more independent of the phone.

This year I think I’ll pass and keep my AW 4.
i don’t like the idea of an always on OLED display. At all.

The AOD is the huge new feature. Nothing else matters this year.
It makes Series 5 a no-brainer purchase for pretty much everyone.
Always on and OLED ? Not sure is a good idea...

Obviously Apple think about progression way ahead of time.

Before the S4 was even released, they would be discussing internally what about the future S5 would set it apart from the S4.

Innovation isn’t constrained to hardware alone and doesn’t mean the watch isn’t innovative because it can’t teleport you to a place increasingly far away each year.

If you’re honest with yourself, you know the Apple Watch is not only innovative, it’s the best smartwatch available by a wide margin.

Posts like this just make you look like a hater because you’re way too dismissive.
I actually own (will my wife does) an Apple Watch S4 and I'll agree that the Series 4 is awesome.

What I go on about is the Series 5 being announced as a revolutionary new product when it is just a minor upgrade. It should have been called the Series 4.1. The series 5 is not in any way a revolutionary new product like Apple likes to drone on about. Apple innovation has been on the downswing lately and as an Apple fan I am tired of Apple calling these releases, "revolutionary breakthroughs" when they are nothing more than marketing bling.

If you have a Series 3 or earlier - it's a huge upgrade in my book. Definitely worth it.

But if you have a Series 4 (like I do) - it's not a given. It's more incremental. If you have money to blow, sure - the AOD and compass, etc, will be nice. Or if you were really wanting to switch from GPS to Cellular (or vice-versa) or different case metal, then yeah. But none of that is the case for me - so it's a pass.

Looking forward to seeing what I'll get with the Series 6.

I love these two comments appearing right after each other. Really sums up the tensions of Macrumors as a community.

Not tension, but differences in awareness and critical thinking. The great thing about a free society is that each person can have their own opinion based on their own level of knowledge.

To me, if the watch is on when I look at it, what is the value of constant on. Not much really. Most people I know think the same way. Those that don't, will you have to wonder.

In addition, constant on means that everyone else can see what's on my watch face. When it was just a clock it did not matter. Now with the smarts of Apple Watch, I think it does matter as a privacy issues and I think it is actually dumb to have constant on.

But fanboys and fangirls have to get excited about something. I guess this is it. But I think if this is it, then it is a sad day for Apple.

I didn’t mean tension in bad way. It doesn’t have to be negative, as the liminal spaces tension creates can lead to valuable realizations. It’s just variations on a spectrum, in this case something like “what counts as innovative / worth buying?”

What? Always on is has been one of the most requested features since the watch was launched. And there is a setting that hides your private data when the screen is dimmed. The only thing that other people will be able to see is the time.
