Hi guys.

I have a MBP Santa Rosa.

For some time now it has been getting very very hot.

The screen of my mbp kept going dark and took awhile to come back on. If i plugged my mbp into my TV i could see the picture while the screen was still dark.

I took it to apple and they problem didnt happend when i as there so they could not help.

Then i started having problems (6 months later)
The screen started to flash all different colours and would then sometimes crash the computer and i would have to force a re-start.

After i few times doing this my mbp would not boot. It got to the apple logo screen and flashed up "you computer needs to restart" bla bla..

The way i got around this was to hold apple and s when the computer booted. This ran something i didnt understand then i exited that and the mbp booted.

Once i got it to boot i formated and started again. After a few days i got the same problem.

Now it wont boot past the "you need to restart" screen no matter what i do.

I also have just tried to reinstall osx but when i try to boot from disc it gets stuck at the apple screen :(

Hope someone can shed some light on this?

Sorry if there is mistakes in my typing, im rushing to see fam

Thanks inadvance for all your help

Rob

The SantaRosa MBP uses the nVidia 8600m GT Graphics chip which has been deemed faulty by Apple, nVidia and every other manufacturer that used it. It sounds like that's the root of your problem and is covered by an Apple warranty program, regardless of whether your computer is covered under warranty. If it is indeed related to the graphics card, Apple will replace the logic board for you for free.

I'd set up another genius bar appointment as soon as you can.

Here's a link to the KB Support document: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377

I had a similar problem with my G4 iBook...the screen went bizarro with different color lines with a grey background and then would fade out to all grey...couldn't boot from the OSX install disc...it was the video card and they had to replace the logic board....luckily, I had AppleCare...:D

Thank you guys very much for your fast responce.

Also thanks for the link.

I will make an appointment with apple this weekend.

I found it hard enough to log on here and create a post on my GFs PC/Windows.

God i miss osx and its only been a day!

Thanks again.

I will report back with my results.

Cheers
