I really want to like the Patriot case but the built in screen shield is Horrible with a capitol H. There's TOO much space between the built in screen protector and the iPhone 6 screen. Have to tap hard and swiping is horrible. I've been through 6 exchanges from Best Buy and 1 replacement from Tech21. Called Tech21 customer service and they admit there's space but sent me a replacement.

The Patriot has a lot of potential. In my opinion besides the built in screen protector it's one of the nicest rugged cases on the market.

Anyone else having an issue with the built in screen protector?

I went through 3 of these cases. I loved the case because it looked really good but the gap in the screen protector made me go back to the Otterbox defender.

Yea the looks, feel and everything else blows the Otterbox away. The Patriot in my opinion is a really nice looking case and feels great in the hand. Has sort of a sandy feel that provides good grip. I also like the clearish back. BUT like I said the gap in the screen protector is HORRIBLE. A review that I saw said that Tech21 fixed the issue.

I think that may have been my review :)
I love Tech21 cases and I was disappointed that the iPhone 6 Plus Patriot case that Tech21 sent me to review initially had a major warp to the screen. I went to my local Best Buy and looked at all three Patriot iPhone 6 Plus cases they had on the rack and none of them had the screen warping issue my sample case had. I contacted Tech21 and they sent me out another one. This one, like the ones in Best Buy, was fine. It isn't a perfect screen protector--it is no tempered glass beauty or as nice as Tech21's own Impact Shield screen protector, but it is perfectly usable and I like it more than other built-in screen protectors I have tried, such as the one on the Griffin Survivor All-Terrain. I can swipe up and down and back and forth with no problem. Typing is fine. Optical clarity is good, but there is some diminishment.

Honestly, I don't know why they didn't try to make the Patriot case work with their regular Impact Shield screen protector, and have some sort of seal on the sides--like on waterproof cases that leave the screen bare--to keep out water and dust. That would work really well. As it is, I have heard of people who have removed the built in screen protector and used the Patriot case with their favorite screen protector. They have seemed pretty happy with the arrangement.

There may be differences in the 6 and 6 Plus versions. Macher, is your case for the 6 or the 6 Plus?

Mine is a 6. I already contacted Tech21 and hopefully will get this this resolved.

I also went through a number of these cases before giving up on them because of the gap.

So sorry to hear it! How frustrating. I completely understand what you mean about the gap--it drove me crazy on the case I had that had that issue. Out of curiosity, is yours a 6 or 6 Plus?

Kristin

They are sending me a replacement and said the gap problem has been solved with the 6 version.
I certainly hope that it has been solved:) The updated version for the 6 plus is not like using a glass screen protector, or no screen protector at all, but swiping in all directions works fine and typing is fine--it is absolutely acceptable as a built in screen protector. Good luck!

Yea I understand that a built in screen protector isn't like having the likes of Zagg HDX or Zagg Glass. All I want is to easily type and swipe.

I can certainly do both easily on my Patriot case--fingers are crossed that your replacement will work out for you!
