I've asked and will try again: anyone know how to sign in to TED on Apple TV 4K without doing it via the internet? When done via Safari it lets you in but all history etc. is lost. As if you're a new member. Anyone know how to sign in via the ATV itself? As if signing in to Netflix or HboMax etc.? Has anyone encountered this behavior with other applications on the new Apple TV 4K? Thanks in advance for any responses. I've tried to use the Help/Search on the TED internet site but haven't been able to find a solution.

Nope, the only way to sign into to the app is through the ted.com/appletv website. However make sure you are signed in with your account prior to going to that link.
1. Sign in on the Ted site
2. On the Apple TV, open the Ted App > settings > sign in
3. On safari, go the link provided, input the code on your TV and you’re good to go
When you watch on the site are you logging in each time? If you’re not that’s the problem.
I tend to watch on my iPhone through the app and my Apple TV has the same watch history.

Thanks....but that sucks as you loose all of your history and 'watch later' etc. Have you gone though this situation also? Seems crazy that TED/Apple would design it this way! Re-read your post: can you go into more detail concerning 'make sure you are signed in with your account prior to going to that link.' ? You me be logged in (using my 'usual' log in) via Safari? And then try to log in via ATV? As I can't log in via the ATV first........
Why do you loose your history?
You must be doing something slightly differently, all my history is shown in the Apple TV app.
Will try again and see what happens. Off-topic: yours was the first book I every purchased; in my elementary school book club: 'War of the Worlds'.
