Me too, Apple Music needs help, it has been 3 years since I’m using it. Siri needs serious attention.
Apple TV is a joke. Loaded up with great movies, but must buy or rent.

That's really the whole idea being TV+, I believe. Use original content to get people to open up the TV app, where you then have the option of purchasing / renting shows to build out your content library (and Apple gets a 30% cut). Apple also saves on costs by not needing to rent a back catalogue of shows you might not care about

Although I do not fit that category, I can see why it's not preferred. Apple Music is the pretentious psyche of importance while not focusing on playlists and music irrelevant to anyone unless you prefer the crackling ambient nonsense constantly being pushed.

Numbers like these reminds us that as much we like what we like, there is a bigger universe out there that don’t like the same things we do.

I can see why so many people I know use Spotify even I when I don’t. Personally I was on Apple Music until I got YouTube Premium.

Its not rocket science...
Apple Music = $
Apple TV+ = $
Spotify = Ad supported
Youtube = Ad Supported

If Apple wants to compete for teen's short attention, they need to offer a "free" (ad-supported since nothing is "free") tier.

If a gang of teenagers beating up someone for using an android phone isn't a bullish sign for AAPL i don't know what is.

I have a smartphone but I'm a luddite and don't really use it for anything other than phone calls and photos.

So I use Spotify on my Mac and maybe it's not the same as the phone, but the software is just so much better. I opened Apple Music the other day just out of curiosity because I hadn't used it in so long, and it seems so clinical and inorganic for a music app compared to Spotify. And Apple had such a lead with the original iTunes and Music Store. I never understood why they needed Beats to begin with. iTunes was nicer back when it came out than Apple Music (the app) is now over twenty years ago, and the iTunes Music Store would have been a perfect way to browse a streaming service. I don't get why they couldn't have just changed the Buy button to a Play button and let you drag and drop from the previous "store" to your playlists. But they started from scratch, and I never really got it. Spotify has a great interface and "magical" (to borrow Apple's phrase) algorithms for picking music I like.
Spotify is so much better than AM, but Spotify shot themselves in the foot with not supporting Apple Watch streaming (out of spite) so I tried out AM platform. The Apple One bundle got me to stay.

I can confirm these poll numbers with my teens (although they are stuck with Apple Music because thats all I'll pay for).

Apple TV is the only media player I use. I primarily use Netflix. Amazon Prime, and HBO. I like it.
I also use Apple TV only, but this has nothing to do with Apple TV+. As confusing as it may seem (Thanks, Apple's marketing team!).

You're subscribed to other streaming services, so you proved my point though.

It's because the really sad fact is, Apple doesn't care about native Mac software anymore. Music, News, Messages, etc are just the iPad app ported using Catalyst.

Spotify cares more about native software than Apple does. Search your heart, you know it to be true.

Corporate software development has overtaken user experience at Apple.

I hope they prove me wrong every year at WWDC but every year they just reinforce that view.

APPLE READ MY WORDS: Release a new, limited edition iPod, and I guarantee young people will flock to Apple Music.

Urban Outfitters briefly sold some iPods last year, and they sold out nearly instantly. There are companies like Elite Obsolete Electronics who are dedicated to refurbishing old iPods. Demand is there, it is just latent.

A limited edition/Anniversary iPod sparks nostalgia for some, and exclusivity for others. It's the perfect way to re-ignite Apple Music. Spotify has no counter to physical hardware - their brief foray into hardware was a huge flop.

I use both Spotify and Apple Music. Admittedly as a medical student and now resident, I still have student discounts on my accounts. Both Spotify and Apple Music have things I like about both. I have to say many times I have Shazam’d a song it is almost always available on Spotify but not always on Apple Music.

They don't actually love iPhone. They only use it because everyone else does. Also for whatever reason whoever wrote that article seems to think there isn't a world outside of US borders... the majority of people in the world use Android.... because Whatsapp is available on all platforms, unlike Apple's (ironically inferior) iMessage.

The thing is though, Spotify is a better app despite seemingly just being the web version turned into an app. I can log in to spotify.com (not that I really have a reason to) and the interface is identical from what I can tell, and still miles better than the Apple Music app.

I agree though regarding the native first party Mac apps. News is so much worse than reading articles in any web browser. Pinch to zoom doesn't work in News, as one example. Clicking on links sometimes takes you out of News to a browser, sometimes to another article within News, and swiping with two fingers sometimes takes you back to a previous article and sometimes just seems to scroll between random articles. It's kind of shocking how bad it is. I mean it should improve over reading news on the web in some way, and I can't think of any way in which it doesn't just make simple concepts of navigation more confusing.

I assumed that in a family where everyone is using iPhones, one parent would simply sign up for the family version of Apple One and share it with all the other members. So teenagers would end up getting Apple Music, TV+, fitness+ and iCloud storage for free anyways. 😛

That said, my impression of TV+ content is that it seems to appeal to an older demographic (dad prestige TV, as one website called it), as I guess it's fine so long as Apple is aware and fine with this arrangement.

Apple Music is for people that value sound quality, content, and actually having a library. Spotify is basically for people that only listen to playlists, because their library management system is terrible.

Apple Music works fine for my needs. I rarely listen on the Mac due to the lack of bit rate switching on the fly. I have an iPad setup in my office that does Apple Music better than my Mac.. Apple Music also works great on the HomePod, I like the AppleTV interface, I like using Siri in the car/carplay, I like easy access to my own music, I also like the lossless audio, etc. I see why kids would like the playlist sharing and/or freemium Spotify if their parents aren’t paying for their service. I was using freemium Spotify to listen a podcast, but I really don’t want that integrated into my music app. Prefer a separate app like Overcast.

I mainly listen to albums. Apple does a great job of recommending music ( thanks to using it for years), though I will often just tell Siri what I want to hear. Also nice to tell HomePod to play something on my receiver or AppleTV and just have it start playing.

My main complaints are Airplay not working with hi res. You need a wired solution. There are also differences with how AirPlay handles AirPlay vs AirPlay 2.

The DoJ has suggested that Apple's ownership of the U.S. smartphone market causes "social stigma, exclusion, and blame" for non-iPhone users, with "green bubble" chats and issues between iPhone and Android message users cited as a specific example. The DoJ claims that this is "particularly powerful" for teenagers, and that "social pressure" causes teens to switch to the iPhone
So what is the proposed solution?
