What bothers me is that participants can delete and change things at will. For example, you are in a multi-year relationship, then you have a fight, emotions are running high, one person decides to just delete the whole chat history in an instant and with it the whole history of the relationship. I sent messages and I received messages, they are part of my life. I should own them.
You can also export them.
My point, not everyone needs it. If I think a conservation needs to be encrypted, I’ll switch to it. or I’ll use Signal, if the other person has it. This is why I have Telegram, Signal, and WhatsApp (even if I hate Facebook) so I can contact others. Not everyone uses the same platform. I‘m not going to tell people they should or shouldn’t use a certain messaging app.

Actually, the UK government hadn't sanctioned Roman Abramovich (the owner of Chelsea FC) when HE decided to put the club up for sale.
He was later sanctioned, and his assets frozen because of his links to Putin's regime, not because he's Russian.
Even if you had links, say a friend of mine or my brother in law kills someone, why am I punished for it? heck, the law does not even punish the son for the crimes of his father.

Wow. If you had anything to do with the murder, then you would be questioned and appropriately punished. Since Russian billionaire oligarchs are known to have links with Putin, we sanction them to cut off the money that could go to Putin. If the billionaire elites are screwed over, they might be able to pressure Putin into ending the war.
No one is saying Abramovich has committed war crimes, we're saying he has profited off the Putin regime that has led to this war where Putin and his military are most definitely committing war crimes.

I really wish Apple didn't censor the iOS Telegram client. The desktop client is fantastic and I'd love the ability to have a "Telegram for Business" to switch away from Slack.
Putin has been bombing Syria since like 2011 , how come UK did nothing to Abramovich then? Why its suddenly war crime in Ukraine?
And Country X has been bombing Country Y for years... etc. I don't know why we didn't sanction Abramovich back then, nor any of the other oligarchs who shuffle their ill-gotten gains to this launderette off the coast of Europe. I would guess it's because there was some political reason behind it. Just like how Bodger Johnson gave Evgeny Lebedev (the son of a KGB spy) a Lordship the moment he became Prime Minister. You'll also note that the UK has been (shamefully) slow in applying these sanctions, so it seems our idiotic government has political (read: money) reasons to hold off. Only when the entire universe pointed out how cr4ppy we were being did we move a bit quicker.
