I tested out my iPhone X to see how the telephoto lens and normal camera works together.
My theory has always been, that when you zoom between x1-2 it’s the normal lens, and x2-10, it’s is the telephoto lens. Simpel is that.

But putting my finger on each lens to test it shows that the normal camera lens are used like 8/10 even at full zoom and the telephoto lens only in rare cases.
The only way I can trigger the telephoto lens by comand is with x2-6 video recording.

My question is how they work together. For sue to my test, why can the iPhone 7 then not have x10 zoom if only one lens are used? Anyone knows some secret please?

normal lens is 1x zoom. telephoto lens is 2x optical zoom. anything in between is a combination between the two lens. anything over 2x up to 10x is digital zoom. typically, I only shoot with one lens or the other at normal zoom. anytime you use digital zoom, it only adds to the distortion of the photo IMHO.
