Switched from OpenBSD to Fedora 20 and it now consistently runs 10 C cooler.

Temperature while web browsing is 54 C. Output from the sensors says that the CPU considers 86 C to be "high" and 100 C "critical". I'm guessing 86 C is where it bumps up the fan speed, so battery life ought to be better with the temps below "high".

Mid-2010 13" MacBook Pro, 2.4 GHz C2D, 4 GB RAM

I have Mail, Safari, iTunes, and Messages open.

It's been awake for about 3 minutes, before that it was asleep for a few hours. Only this and a Youtube tab open in Safari.

Temps in menubar:

1st: CPU Die
2nd: Iris Pro
3rd: 750m

**Note**

Those with haswell machines, iStat Pro's temps are incorrect, reading too low. The temperature reported by iStat Menus PECI Die and temps reported by SMCFanControl are accurate.

Windows.

Cheap (very) work windows machine browsing - 34 degrees. Compaq CQ61 to be exact.
