After work I decided to relax by the pool and read a book on my iPad. I used it for about 20 minutes while laying on a lounge chair. After putting it down to take a dip I went to turn it on and was greeted with the message that I couldn't use my iPad till it cooled down. Needless to say it scared the **** out of me!

I put it under my chair and after 10 minutes or so it was fine, but I just wanted to see how common this issue was. I was looking forward to taking it to the beach in a few weeks bit now I'm not so sure...

Yea I was under direct sun light. I check Weather.com afterwards and it was only 86 which is a rather cool day for a North Carolina summer, so now I'm scared to take it to the beach!

This has been covered before however, do not leave in direct sunlight or in a hot car. The outside air temp is not the temp of the iPad in direct sunlight. It was probably well over 100 degrees on the glass. Last weekend the PBA team event was shown on TV and the outside air temp was 74. The temp of the outdoor lanes in direct sun was 122 degrees. Your iPad may have been even higher. All devices with these types of displays will get very warm to very hot in the sun. Its not just the iPad. When it cools down all should be well.
