Apple today seeded the tenth beta of a new tvOS 12 operating system to developers for testing purposes, four days after releasing the ninth beta and more than two months after introducing the new software at the 2018 Worldwide Developers Conference.

Designed for the fourth and fifth-generation Apple TV, the tvOS 12 developer beta can be downloaded onto the Apple TV using a profile that's installed through Xcode. Subsequent betas can be downloaded via the software update mechanism on the Apple TV.

tvOS 12 introduces support for Dolby Atmos sound, which was activated in the second beta. Apple says that when tvOS 12 launches this fall, iTunes will be home to the largest collection of Dolby Atmos-supported movies.

Customers that have previously purchased movies that gain Dolby Atmos support will see free upgrades to their titles, much like the rollout of 4K support.

Building on single sign-on, a new zero sign-on feature will further simplify the cable authentication process. With zero sign-on, the Apple TV can detect a user's broadband network and automatically sign them into supported apps they receive through their accompanying cable subscription.

Zero sign-on will be available for Charter Communications customers this fall and will expand to additional cable providers in the future.

Aerial screensavers now include location information and there are new screensavers captured in collaboration with the International Space Station.

Other improvements tvOS-related improvements include AutoFill passwords from iPhone, an Apple TV Remote automatically added to Control Center on the iPhone or iPad, and Apple TV support on Home control systems like Control4, Crestron, and Savant.

tvOS 12 is available for developers and public beta testers to work out bugs and other issues ahead of a fall public launch.

It really feels like Apple is only putting out updates to the beta for tvOS simply because the base code for the phones has changed. They truly underutilize what the Apple TV can do.

If you mean that the maturation of the UX and of the things an Apple TV can do for its users, I am with you!
What, apart from the inexplicable TV app have they been adding in the last years, that could makes headlines? 4K upgrade, Dolby this and that. But, I only have a TV that I renew every 3-4 years, if at all... and I just have a nice stereo setup... I am not enjoying any important change to be honest.

Same goes to the app and game world. I thought that especially the latter would grow, but ... not really, uh?

    PiP would be most welcome.

I have a Nest in my sons nursery and it’d be a great feature to have...

I personally would love an aggregation of live feeds from all the apps into the tv app

Why can't I create and add my own aerial screensavers with a drone and add them to ATV via my Mac?!

STILL don't see the Space aerials...

Really wish Apple would make an Apple TV with a Antenna built in so I didn't have to buy one for Local Channels!

Yes, but how many tuners would be the right number of tuners? 1, 2, 4 or more?

Workaround: Silicon Dust HDHomeRun products. Use with the Channels app or Plex to get locals playing on your :apple:TV. Works great! And you can choose however many tuners you want (including buying more than one HDHomeRun if you need more than 4 in the Quattro box).

What I mean is... why don’t they evolve the interface further, make a remote that isn’t mediocre, work to improve the gaming experience, have stuff to help you calibrate your tv like the THX app, etc. other than a couple of things they haven’t done much in two releases.

....and fix a variety of basic bugs that seem to just last and last? Fast scroll worked well on my older “4” when scrolling a text list. Then Apple decided to “improve” things by making fast scroll stop & wait for thumbnail images to load EVERY TIME. Fast scroll is now start & stall, start & stall scroll.

My 4K seems to lose the link to its parent Mac regularly... much more so than any prior generation :apple:TV. Requires a restart to reconnect.

And on and on. I think we need a Snow Leopard -type effort with tvOS.

At least make all features worldwide not country specific.

Is it so hard make siri in all country iTunes?
Is it so hard make TV Watch Now in all country iTunes?

Above both features is not available in Asian country iTunes account for Apple TV at the moment.

Not only have I not seen the space Aerials, but the screensavers seem to be stuck on Hong Kong and Dubai forever.

I think it’s less about technical issues and more about legal hurdles. Some countries have strict rules on software/hardware.

Would be great if I could figure out how to update the beta on my Apple TV. It decided it no longer wants beta updates so I'm stuck at something like beta #3, which is horribly unstable

Beta seeds should be second page news. This is the 10th seed which means it has been front pages 10 times then add in the corresponding iOS and watchOS seeds. Most of the time they add very little additional insight and only relate to a small beta community.
