Hey all!

I’ve been super stoked to have the new iPhone 14 pro max, and it has been an absolute joy to use. I was not one of the people who encountered the camera vibration issue that 16.0.2 addressed, however, I am someone who mainly uses my phone for product photography and I’m having a very difficult time with the video quality. I upgraded from an iPhone 11 Pro Max that had a phenomenal camera on it that I never had any issues with. Using my new 14 promax, my videos are extremely low quality. Not necessarily when filming things from a distance, but when I do up close, short, length, videos of products, it almost seems as if the focal length (sorry if I’m butchering the terminology!) is so incredibly long that I can’t get a clear shot of the product without being what seems 5 feet away. To go along with that, when I actually do get the product in focus, the sweet spot is so incredibly small and difficult to maintain , that if I deviate from my initial position by even an inch, the whole shot goes blurry with absolutely no detail. I have yet to ship back my old 11, so I did a video comparison of the same product and was completely shocked at the quality difference. My iPhone 11 pro max shot crystal clear 4K video even at close range while my 14 pro max shot subpar blurry video up close, and again, I had to be a very long distance away to even find a sweet spot for focus. As a note, I used my wife’s iPhone 12 pro max for the same type of video and it, too, comes out beautiful. I’m not sure if there’s a setting I’m missing or if I just need to accept that this camera is not good for up close videos, but it is severely impacting my ability to put out content, and I was truly hoping someone here might be able to help me out. all the things in advance! Also! Please let me know if there’s any more information I can provide that might help diagnose the issue. Cheers.!

Do you have lens protectors on the camera lenses by chance? I read those can mess up autofocus. Besides that I think something is wrong with your phone, my 14 pro produces fantastic quality videos with close range subjects and has no issues with focusing while recording. I would contact support or take it back to an apple store.

Great suggestion! I actually do have a lens protector on my phone! I think I found the issue though. I had no idea you couldn’t do macro videos at 4K 60fps. I lowered it to 30th an and it’s works like a charm…but now the frame rate is choppy lol. I suppose using HD at 60fps is my best bet? I wonder how much of a difference in quality I will see overall.

I am at 1080/60. Works well on my 14PM. I am surprise you can’t do close up videos at 4K/60? I have been wondering whether or not I should move to 4K/60 instead of my historical setting at 1089p/60. Knowing I have a very recent TV (Song A90J) and use a
2021 ATV4K as my daily driver.
