I have an LG - Retina display MBP 15" too.

Today I just received my Apple Care Warranty from B&H Photo :

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/582543-REG/Apple_MC247LL_A_3_Year_AppleCare_for_15.html

I`m registered with Apple and I`m covered until 12/14/2015 :)

Even though I have no issues right now , tomorrow isn`t here yet ;) ,
so just to be on the safe side , I did get the added protection.

Plus , I finally got the Game Center working , so lets hope I wasted $244.00 !

At least I can rest easy :D ______ I hope

PS:

That link I provided is the best place to buy Apple Care , I have bought many things from B&H , and have always had a fair deal , good guy`s !!

I picked up an Early 2013 15" rMBP today from the Apple Store in Naperville, IL. It's a Samsung panel!! :D Had a 2012 that I bought a week ago that was an LG and figured it was worth trying to swap for the new one just in case the panel changed. Everything seems good so far.

That's good news. My sister just ordered a 2.4/16/256 from Portable One, she's expecting it next week. Fingers are crossed for her!

Yeah I can definitely tell the difference. I had them side by side as we migrated them at the Apple Store, and I would definitely say the colors just pop a bit more and everything looks nicer.

im getting beyond FN pissed at apple now. Never have i Had so many issues trying to get a "working" computer.

I have had so many replacements that on my way home from the store today I thought it was me. but It is not as looking back on prior purchases electronics or not, I dont ever remember returning a single thing aside from a blackberry that i didnt like 6-7 years ago.

Third Retina 15 macbook.. First one got stupid hot while on sleep w charger plugged in (LG screen).

Second just developed screen flicker (samsung)

third and current is the new 2.4 w LG pannel and the brightness sucks!! i mean, i never had the samsung over half brightness.. this LG i have to have at near full to give me the same effect samsung did @ half.

I am sick of reinstalling programs etc, what would you guys do???? Grad student and i LIVE on this thing. Bought the best expecting the best.

edit. i didnt want to give up my second one w screen flicker but they couldnt find the problem and said it was best to swap out.

Had the most recent one for at least 24 hours now? My old LG took about two days to warm up, and there were initial dark spots but they burned in about 48 hours later to give a really nice picture.

No, at the time of my post I just received the computer. I am on the 24hr mark now and i put it side by side with my girlfriends 13cMBP and on the same settings my retina is noticeably darker.
_____________

I am sick of replacing computers. And I am not ok knowing that IR is almost guaranteed with LG.

I shouldn't have to worry about will my computer work as new a year and a half from now. HP and other PC manufactures were said to have issues like this.. not apple.

To say i need to purchase apple care is ridiculous. I purchased other insurance incase I damage/lose the computer.

Sorry for my rant guys.

Not for the 13", the command hasn't been found yet.

Thanks. So is there any other way to tell which screen I have? I think it is a LG because I did the checkerboard test and had IR for about 10 minutes. But in terms of real world application I don't think this will be an issue. Am I missing something?

No. If you do manage to recreate IR with the test, and you are fine with it, why would you need to? Is the screen good? If so, be happy...

I bought a rMBP last week from Best Buy with an LG display which turned defective within 2 hours(noticed a vertical line of missing pixels or whatever it is called). Returned that and got a replacement which also had an LG display. Then the refresh was announced by Apple, so I rushed to the Best Buy store this morning to have it replaced with the newer model, they had just one piece left and I was the lucky one. Came home, after restoring through Time-Machine the first thing I did was check the display manufacturer and tadaaa... it's SAMSUNG. :)

I don't know about others but to me it is noticeably brighter and much more sharper than LG, I noticed the sharpness even before verifying it through Terminal command.

yup... as stated earlier by me, i went from samsung to an LG.

I do a TON of pdf reading and I have only had this machine in my hands for a day and its day / night difference.

Oh, don't get me wrong--I'm happy and love how the screen works. I haven't done much research on IR but I didn't know if there were any long-term effects or particular reasons that I should be concerned. That's all. :)

have you done image retention tests on your LG screen?

desktop wallpaper should be set to grey, try to leave any window open there for 50-10 minutes, if it doesnt have a IR, you can say you're lucky:)

mine had it after 3 minutes:)

I did the test on my used (bought it off someone who had it since August 2012- over 6 months). Left a finder window on for over 1/2 hour and no IR despite being an LG panel.

Paint me naive but isn't image retention or persistence expected on IPS panel. Even the best IPS panel from NEC suffers from IR. There are simple steps you can take to prevent IR and in all but a few cases of IR are permanent.

That probably explains why Samsung panels do not suffer the same level of image retention. Samsung panels utilize PLS and do not have the same characteristics of an IPS screen, including ghosting.

It also explains why Apple would publish a article specifically on the image persistence characteristics of IPS panels.

There probably is a reasonable tolerance level of IR, the problem is we don't know exactly what Apple's stance is on this. They run tests but what exactly are Apple's parameters for a screen replacement? Maybe if we knew it could save potential buyers a lot of guesswork, as it's the buyer's choice as to what degree of IR is acceptable.

I have external Eizo IPS SX2462 display and despite being IPS it doesn't have any ghosting. It's a professional monitor for photography so must have some kind of "better" internals to prevent such issues.

No, I wouldn't speak in general that all IPS displays have this issue.

Does any take a photos of his screen? I wondered, Apple fixed a yellow tint in Samsung panels? Please, share photos your screens with white/gray background!;)

I took yesterday my son's Ipad 2 for warranty service to a local Apple retailer in Puerto Rico (we don't have Apples stores here ) and asked the service rep how they would handle the warranty repair of retina MBP with the Image Retention. To my surprise, instead of sending the whole machine to Apple in the USA what they do is to order only the screen assembly and replaced it locally. I'm tempted to handle in my esrly 2012 15" LG screen's rMBP machine, which did showed IR on the checkers test (but don't show any noticeable IR on my normal issue) hoping to get a Samsung display in the process!! Has anyone here with a replaced screen had such swap?

mine didn't show much on genius tests, but I showed him a problem on a grey wallpaper and I took some photos on my iphone earlier which were shown to him as well. after that he just said - ok, we will replace it :)

Early 2013 15" Retina MBP with an LG screen here.
No IR but awful colour uniformity - yellow and red tint patches.
It's going back :(

Today at store i see many rmbp 15 and 13 inch and they display is have a same problem. Thats why i deside a live my notebook. This issue is a ALL rmbp
