Just tested my English vocabulary over at testyourvocab.com. According to the estimate, I know 16,800 words. I'm pretty disappointed with that since according to their blog post, the average 12 year-old knows more words than I do.

Now it's your turn!
 
Incredibly slow website...


-__-. I was on Step 3, and then connection got reset, and now back to step 1.

I couldn't even get on it, so I just assumed that this meant my vocabulary was simply too immense and brilliant to be measured.

As you got on but it failed, that probably means your vocabulary isn't quite as great as mine but is none the less very impressive indeed. Well done. :)

Heh, that's probably exactly what it means. It's alright, I'm content with being just a fair bit behind the amazing Jaffa Cake

It's all the MR users hitting on it.

I got 12,500 words correct, but I am not a native speaker of that English language they talk about.

Anyway, I hopefully have learnt a lot of new words, as I will do the test again and look for the definitions of the words I didn't even recognised, which probably are pig latin anyway.
 
I are clever with 25,800 words!

I am reminded of the Simpsons episodes where Homer listens to the vocabulary builder tape by mistake and then stops...

Homer: Marge, where's that... metal deely... you use to... dig... food...
Marge: You mean, a spoon?
Homer: Yeah, yeah!
 
The title of the poll should be "How many words do you know?"


Tain't just how many words ya know, but how good ya use 'em. :)

An unsurprisingly high tally, given that one of your Regency ancestors actually wrote a dictionary. ;)

Anyway, I managed to get on, and I got 31,200. And I've got proof and everything.
