wow... Samsung just never seems to learn do they.

I don't think i'd wanna see a Take#3.

I don’t think it’s a problem.... I had mention in a thread, those Edge models Samsung released seemed crazy when they were introduced. But they helped in providing a bezel-less phones. Those Note models who we called phablets when they initially launched was something people balked at. Whereas now big phones are in demand.

Yeah, I think this post is just an excuse to laugh at Samsung, and deservedly so. Fair enough they research and develop the tech, but the fact they put this garbage out there at the prices they do says a lot about the company.

We may complain about Apple’s problems (of which there are many) but even the worst of them aren’t at the level of this. This is an order of magnitude worse than Apple’s worst offerings (and then some!).

I know looks are subjective, but that has to be one of the ugliest phones I've ever seen. Sorry, Samsung! Maybe next time...

I honestly don’t see people really buying this until the crease is gone.. and even then. This tech is being used in the wrong department. This tech needs to be used in wearables instead of phones. The “crease” wouldn’t matter on your watch since it wraps around your wrist and wouldn’t be noticeable.

Remember when Samsung fans ripped Apple for a $1,000+ smart phone LOL. 3 and a half years in and my iPhone X works wonderfully to the point that I’m going to own it for another release cycle or two. I don’t trust Samsung in their rush to get features to market. After their joke of a Face ID rip off, the exploding battery fiasco, etc. do you trust them to get this right in the first hardware rev? I don’t.

Hmm.. a $1400 beta testing program. What do I get in return? An official Samsung testing expert certification? Or 2 years of free lunch at Samsung cafetaria? There must be something for me, right?

I like the looks of the Z Flop, err I mean Flip, but the soft plastic screen is just going to be a problem for the general public using a device like this. I think what they should have done is flip the screen around, where the glass is on the outside and the plastic on the inside. But I assume that their glass just doesn’t have the strength needed to survive as a top layer. Effectively, their UTG is there just for the marketing points.

I remember the days when iPhones had "durability issues" if they couldn't survive being launched from a moving vehicle. Now if you open your phone and your fingernails are too long, you'll scratch your screen. Seems like were moving backward in pursuit of "cool". Although I'm not sure why flip phones suddenly became cool again.

They didn’t. At least, not yet.

But if done right, they might become the hot new toy.

If someone I know shows me one, I’m going to try my hardest not to laugh, because it would be rude, would make me feel uncomfortable, and might be embarrassing for the owner, or hurt their feelings. I always try to compliment a friend’s new purchase proportionately to how proud of it they seem to be 🙂

If there is gonna be a crease in the middle anyways, which would drive me the hell insane, and screen is still rather plasticy... I'd MUCH rather have Microsoft's dual screen stuff. Much more durable in about every regard. Aaaaaach ja... the good old Courier :D

Looking at the Flip Z in use, there’s no denying this is the future of mobile devices anymore than when Jobs himself held up that first gen iPhone many years ago. Don’t get me wrong; there’s a lot of work and development that needs to happen before it’s ready for prime time but the possibilities are undeniable.

I like your mentality. And that’s how technology is, once it matures, it becomes to the point where it starts eliminating certain flaws that are not immediately apparent

For me personally, it is not about the issues, or the technology not being ready yet. All these can be sorted. For me, it is about the usefulness of it. I still can't find a single reason why would I want this. The way I see it, I have 2 options. 1-Thicker and smaller phone after being folded, which you have to fold/unfold every time you use it on its standard size. 2- Standart slab of display phone that is ready to be used with a single tap. I pretty much know which one I want. A foldable tablet, on the other hand, is a different story. I would want to have an iPad Pro that when it is folded is the regular 11" size but when unfolded it becomes a much larger display. That is something I would find very useful, providing the technology has matured enough to iron out all the current issues.

The problem I have with large phones (for me: 6 was great, X is just ok, 11 and Pro Max are too large) is not the form factor when the phone is in my pocket or on a desk.

I have difficulties to handle it when it is on: I can't reach all elements on the screen with one hand, some gestures are difficult to pull off, it's heavy, slips from my hands too easily etc. So for me, even if the folding mechanism was done in the most perfect way imaginable, I still would not gain anything at all. It is a completely useless approach, trying to resolve issues I don't have, and at the same time making issues worse I do have.

I agree, foldable screens aren't ready for prime time, and Android is a no-go for me at the moment. But complaining about the price tag is a bit weird, considering that the mid config of the 11 Pro Max costs more than this one in most parts of the world.

Looking forward to this new technology. Anyone with even a few brain cells will realise it needs to be treated differently than the current slab phones. Samsung even put the instructions in simple clear large black and white on the phone. Yet there are people, click bait youtubers, are forcefully digging at the screen, putting sand directly in the folding mechanism and say its failing.
