Hi,

I'm planning to start a web magazine soon but don't have a web host yet, and as it won't be launching until the new year I'm not in any rush to get one. However, I would like to download Wordpress and test out a few different themes - particularly with regards to customisation - as soon as possible.

Is there any way I can do this now without a web host? Or are there any good free web hosting options I could use?

Thanks,

SG

You can setup a web host on your own machine. Install MAMP and there you go. There's plenty on this if you search as it's something many do.

Avoid the "free" webhosting, you might not be able to maintain your own database fully, advertising might be included in the browser, possible severe limitations with disk space, bandwidth and domain setup, sometimes limited upload or ratio based (ugh!) and a great way to get spammed. Most free webhosts make money from advertising and hidden gimmicks ---- just say NO!

(My .02, I'm sure a few of you had a good experience, but these days MAMP as angelwatt suggested is so easy, plus you can customize the blog page and test without any uploading to a remote server as it's 100% localhost on your own PC. It's the way to go, so ditto from me.)

Thanks for that guys - I downloaded MAMP and set up Wordpress on my Macbook and it works beautifully.
