Okay, so I'm making the jump from my Android device, which I use for tethering since it's my only source of wifi, to an iPhone.

I know that AT&T cracks down on tethering like nobody's business. I've constantly tethered more than 60 GB per month on my Android device on Verizon and haven't heard a peep.

My only question is, is it because I'm on an android device and it simply hides the data packets better, or is it because it's Verizon?

If I tether as much on the i5, using Tetherme, will I be all right?

Again, this is specifically for Verizon users.

There is no native way to do what you want on the iPhone (without a tethering plan from Verizon), so you are correct in your thinking that you need to JB and use Tetherme (or something like it).

The fact the Verizon has never "said" anything about it in the past is not guarantee that they will not in the future, does not matter what phone you use.

I use Verizon, I have the unlimited data plan. I used to average about 2gb a month, since LTE and iTunes Match I now average about 4GB a month.

I have TetherMe but only use it every once in a while.

Tethering will be no different. You'll have to jailbreak to get this feature without paying extra, but if Verizon hasn't cared about your usage before it won't care now.

Thanks guys. I'll definitely be jailbreaking it, and not just for tethering.

    I think I'll be okay.

    Thanks again! :)

Check to see if Verizon still offers the unlimited data. You might loose it if you do change phones.this is why I haven't upgraded my iPhone 4 yet. I don't want to loose my Unlimited Data and I really dont want to open another line.

Just in case you didn't know... you're going to have to buy the new phone unsubsidized from Verizon in order to keep that unlimited plan.

You will not lose the ULD plan just by changing phone. You will need to pay full price for the iPhone 5, if you use your subsidiey then you will lose the ULD.

^good point I had forgot about that, I paid full price for mine back in November.

I also have an iphone 4 from Verizon. Switching to Sprint as they are the only carrier to still have unlimited. I have unlimited now but not worth it to pay full price to stay with a loser company.
