And this after all is Texas, where everything supposed to be really BIG.

The police were probably mad for getting shorted on their purchase.

better allocation of resources

I completely agree with anyone who implied this- I don't really care what the law is and everything there this really seems like a waste of time considering what all else is going on- they mave have been able to be trying to save lives.
And that's my limited take on it at least.

Could this just be a case of zoning? Was the area that she was living in not zoned for business operations? I did not bother reading the article but my guess is that it must have something to do with zoning laws.

Those supermarkets (obviously megamarkets in Texas) selling cucumbers and similar shaped fruit should be careful. They do look rather obscene to me!

ironic

It is rather ironic that after posting for sometime on macrumors today is the day that I stopped being a newbie and became a member. Now I obviously can't go to Texas - being a member and all.

Heh... Welcome to Texas... We're not all that bad, really.

I, personally have had no use for anything like that before, and I don't plan on needing it...

Now, I do think that what people do on their own is private. This is just another stupid law that someone who lives in the "Bible Belt" thought would get him more votes, so he did it, and it worked... It's what people do to get votes... It's called "politics". It's the same thing with redistricting. We've had that same issue before when someone else came in and re-drew the map to their advantage.

Just remember that there are a lot of 'weirdos' who live in Texas. I could've sworn I thought I saw everything, but then I went to Austin for college... For those of you who have been to Texas, and then have seen what Austin is like, you will understand me. For those who don't, come to Texas. You'll find out. Just don't bring any dildos.... heh... spell checker doesn't recognize dildo...

I've seen a few variations on that sticker. One in Santa Cruz (as if you guys aren't weird enough:D ) and another down here to "Keep Grover Beach weird" As if it's not weird enough here either, but in a completely different way than SC. I'd love to go to Austin, I could spend a long time listening to the music scene there... I hear there's some great places to eat too.

Hell yeah, there's people wearing those everywhere, they sell them at the bookshop I think, they say "Keep Santa Cruz weird, support our street performers!" or somehting like that.

Hmm...must resist the urge to buy one now....

The one time I was there, Austin seemed like a surprisingly nice town, if you ignore the fact that it's in Texas. Ironic that it's the state capital.

For those planning on visiting Texas, by the way, you're free to bring a dildo or other such paraphenalia with you--they're legal to OWN, just not to sell, it would seem. Try to bring in more than six, though, and they'll bust you for intent to sell, according to the articles I read.

How's that for weird. And the law was only passed in 1978!

I guess it depends on your tastes. I can't stand the areas around campus... It's too weird for me. Students and environmentalists all live around central Austin... I like the outskirts, though. Some nice hills and stuff...

The "Keep Austin Weird" thing is a campaign to support local businesses. In Austin, and the surrounding areas, people will do anything to keep a Wal-Mart or any other big box retail store out of their neighborhood, even if it would be convenient for them. And then they complain about the high cost of living... Keep Austin Weird. Go figure...

I swear, though, that the rest of Texas is really nice. I just think this woman's case is one of those weird things that just grabs a lot of headlines...

Oh, and tazo, that was great... :D

Here in 'Bama (The state for imposed highr moral law) we had a law that outlawed ANY "toy", including vibrators et al...

a group of women sued the state saying they were medical devices and going with the argument "How Dare you try to impose this kind of restriction on us. who does it hurt?"

6 months later, the ban was lifted, though harsher restrictions wer placed on the location of adult stores, which is what I think the law makers were trying to get anyways. Kind of an "OK, we'll let you have your toys back, though we are going to make it very difficult for anyone to set up shop to sell 'em"

and the general public agreed....

kind of like how they did the lottery.

:D I got the picture. Those right wing-bible-fachos down in Texas don't fu.k, they just screw.

LOL, very good jayscheuerle, I can't see the screen properly because of the tears in my eyes from laughing so hard! tazo, you too - wonderful!

I wish they had a little better sense of humor in Texas and a few other places about this stuff. Sex should be fun! Part of that is not taking this stuff too seriously. Now, I think we should get the "moral majority" to include dildos and "jelly julies" in the high school sex education programs in order to give a boost to their chastity programs. After all no actual contact with another person is needed!

I hope this arrest is not the conservative's response to the Supreme Court's overturning of the sodomy laws. All one has to do is read the majority opinion to see that this law is unconstitutional.

maybe she got busted in the first place because the toy she sold was too small for the cops ... after all, it was in texas. :D

kind of sad that the sodomy, or was it just perversionism, is defined as opposed to the NORMAL BEHAVIOUR.

so lets say majority fscks in a certain way. >> that is the normality. and those who express themselves an other way, are not normal >> sodomists?
i mean -- i'd assume e.g. oral being the norm .. (at least among the younger people) .. welll, if 90 % of the ppl would have oral fun, would that make those who don't practise that (but lets say just plain old fashioned..) being sodomic?
