Text Edit same as Word?

Hi, I am wondering that my paper that I downloaded from my gmail account that went to Text Edit has the same spacing and things as Microsoft Word. This is sort of important because it's a research paper and I cannot lose points for that kind of things.
Also, anyone how to do headers?

Text edit is like a more advanced notepad

Pages is like a more beautiful word.

You can save as .doc

With Pages, if you want to keep formatting exact, go to File->Export->PDF

Just right click and click open with neooffice/openoffice

Or in google docs, just click open in google docs next to the attachment in your gmail

It'd be easy enough to configure TextEdit to format like the basic Word template in the future.
