Text Editing Cursor Navigation

Hi is there any FAQ on how text editing cursor navigation works?

I've learnt through trial and error that CMD left/right, OPTION left/right do different things, and hitting SHIFT will select the text.

However, it is totally different from windows, where only CTRL is used.

I don't know if its just me, but i've been trying to get used to mac text editing navigation for 6 months, and im still really slow...

anyone have any tips or hints? better still how i can recreate window's behaviour?
