Since upgrading to iOS 10, my text messages are out of order.

For example: my most-recent SMS is at the bottom of the individual conversation (as normal), however, it doesn't appear at the top of my Messages app overview of all conversations. The first conversation upon opening the Messages app is from a few days ago, not the latest message.

It is odd to work with, as I have to scroll down through 100 conversations to see the unread/latest message. I have tried to restart the iPhone, erased data/network settings, restored from backup, deactivated/reactivated iMessage, updated phone time, etc. Nothing seems to work.

Is anyone encountering this? Any tips?

Thanks!

my text messages are not showing the persons name - just the phone number

Are you also using imessage on a mac? (or have done so in the past?). it could be a sync issue between the two or sort order on the Mac is overriding that of the iphone's.

No, I only message from my phone.

I tried to restore several times, sync/backup, but nothing seems to work.
