Happening to anyone else? rMBP Early 2013 10.11 GM

Yep. Installed the GM upon release and text replacements are wonky. I initially went in there an filled in 4 of my most frequent ones and checked a few hours later and they were all gone. Rinse and repeat a few times over the last few days.

I'm not on the first release version of El Cap (10.11), and my Text Replacements have all disappeared. I re-entered them manually, only to have them disappear again!

I guess this is a bug, or does anyone know of a way around this?

Thanks!

I have exactly opposite problem. Text shortcuts I deleted are constantly going back on every iOS update.

Yeah, I'm getting this; it started with the 10.11.1 public beta for me. The "fix" is to go into iCloud settings and toggle off, and back on again, iCloud drive. The shortcuts immediately re-appear. Until the next time they randomly disappear.

However, this is also the longest I've had my laptop, phone and ipad have all their shortcuts in sync. Usually, shortcuts created on one device will randomly sync on one or both other ones one day, disappear the next, change into a shortcut I deleted months and months ago etc etc.

So I'll take this "randomly disappears" bug with its relatively simply workaround over the other bugs I used to have. Although I guess they may all come back at some point. It seems that these text shortcuts, being simple strings of text, are extremely technically difficult for Apple to sync correctly using cloud storage o_O

I could have sworn that Yosemite shared the same text shortcuts as my iPhone. After upgrading to 10.11, they are blank. Still on the phone though.

Unfortunately, the Text Replacements have disappeared again. They are still synced through iCould (I presume) between my iOS devices and my Yosemite MacBook Pro; but not to El Cap. I hope the next OS X maintenance update fixes this erratic behavior.

Still working here after doing the on/off iCloud drive thing when I posted earlier. Knock wood.

iCloud is supposed to be this black box that just works, but I've never been 100% confident. It feels like every update and upgrade of my iMac and iPhone leaves things in a state of flux. I wish there was an iCloud master sync button that would clear every device and bring them up to date all at once.

Having the opposite issue where I cannot delete any entries without them reappearing hours or even days later. This happens on iOS and OS X devices.

Apple 2nd line support told me to clear out all 4 devices and then backup one of the iOS devices. This would apparently fix the issue. Made no sense to me and I told him so. Anyway having given up I tried it anyway. Some 5 days later all is still ok. Still makes no sense but so far it has worked.

border terrier,

Yes, I know this one too. :-( When the Text Replacements are there, the ones you delete magically come back later. My guess is that they are synced back when another device (where they are still present because it has been switched off or something) syncs with the iCloud master database.

What resolved this for me was to change the entry instead of deleting it. I just changed the shortcut and replacement text to something else that I found useful, and the changes have stuck.

Mine appears and disappears at random. Restart usually brings it back. If i switch off my iPad, i think thats what causes it to disappear on the iMac then later. Some text replacements also appear double too when they appear again. I think the iCloud broke when it went 'iCloud Drive'. I think it is deteriorating slowly due to some kind of server script or database failure. I believe that the speed in which operating systems upgrade these days, does not even allow the user to fully learn the interface of one OS, before it is already Obsolete and upgraded to the next OS. Bugs galore due to the update-constantly epidemic we are experiencing in current times

Since 10.11.2 PB:

Text shortcuts are disappearing regularly again, however a toggle of iCloud Drive no longer brings them back. A reboot does. I really don't get why something as simple as a few text aliases can't be synchronised properly (or why they disappear if a sync fails).

Edit: Toggling iCloud Drive is working again. This, of course, implies that text shortcuts are still rubbish. I sent (another!) feedback.

select all text replacements using command and A and then drag them to the desktop. this creates a plist which you can drag back in again when they disappear

Mine keep randomly appearing and disappearing on my iMac and rMBP, but are seemingly always staying on my iPhone.

I'm on the latest OSX and iOS public betas and I now have a very weird issue, which I don't believe I've seen before.

For over a week, my shortcuts have been synchronising correctly. They haven't disappeared once. They're there at boot and remain there. Any that I delete have stayed deleted; any new ones have propagated to my other devices.

I'm sure they'll fix this issue soon.

Hi Guys,

Just fleeting through when my tired soul chanced upon this post and just stopped dead. The 'Curse of the Indestructible Zombie Text Settings’ - it still lives??? Whoa!! Brings back terrible memories…from sometime in the not too distant past! Even talking about it sends a chill down my spine!! I don’t know if you guys are still around (since the post is quite old and truth be told, not everybody made it out!) but I just signed up to be able to comment on this post (and also because no one should have to go through what I did)! ╭( ✖﹏✖ )╮

Lemme give you guys a heads up - its not going to go away so easily! It is only due to the courage & determination of a mortal called Scott (and a couple of Apple support guys) that I am here today to show you the light! Seek and you shall find freedom on this link bellow:

Remember - All I ask of you in return is that in the days yet to come, if you see a brother or sister whom you can save from the 'Curse of the Indestructible Zombie Text Settings’, you do what it takes and your debt shall be deemed paid in full like mine is today.

Yours faithfully! (✿´‿`) °(ᴖ◡ᴖ)°

Hello everyone,

my issue is somewhat similar, but even more bizzare...

So, my Mac keeps making text replacement that I deleted a year ago, and does not make a new replacement made on the same Mac. But this new replacement is being made perfectly on iPhone and iPad. All the resetings, checking and unchecking and logging out and re-loging in from iCloud didn't help (only made hand off stop working). I use these replacement every day and it's very annoying...

MAc is Pro 13" with retina and with Sierra 10.12.1... any ideas?

Here is zbb shortcut that should replace to a number, the replacement was made on the mac.

zbb does not work, but zba does although it's not listed

Hi, Yes! I just installed a security update MacOS 10.14.1 and Puff!! they're all gone!! Any idea if there can be recovered?

Cheers!

Edit with solution...

After posting this message it occurred to me that these shortcuts should be in iCloud, so I tried several things, like restarting my computer, logging out and back in of iCloud, but none worked. Then I checked my iPhone and the shortcuts were still there, so I added a new one and Voila!!! that made the trick, my shortcuts are back on my Mac.
