On 13 I could be typing a text, email, note, whatever (iPhone XR).

I could long press a word and it would select that word, give me the usual text options and I got some haptic feedback.

Now I can’t select anything for crap. Long press on a word? It puts the cursor anywhere but the word I pressed. A different sentence or even paragraph. No haptics at all.

I have to long press the space bar to move the cursor to the word I wanted to select. Then, I still don’t know how to select it. Maybe a double tap. Maybe not.

Anyone else? Any suggestions?

Edit... the old way seems to work when a message has been sent, but in compose mode, it’s screwed.

I want to know if when people compose a message if it’s nearly impossible to type what you want to type and proofread it due to the lack of being able to select words.

When I compose ANYTHING, I can’t select anything with precision.

Nobody is going to reply. There are no professionals here.

Nobody types an important message here. You’re all a bunch of...

Even this board is screwed up. A new paragraph starts with a lower case letter.

So yeah. Eat it, Macrumors.

When composing just double tap on the word you want to select. Long press & drag moves the cursor for precision or holding down the space bar and drag moves the cursor for precision.

It really is a huge pain in the ass to compose text on these forums, for sure.

The “new paragraph begins in lowercase” thing is so bad. And the way that the backspace is borked.

Thanks for your reply. When you’re composing something, say a text, can you long press on a word and get the usual options and get haptic feedback? It ain’t working for me.

I long press on a word and the cursor goes nuts.

It absolutely will not select the word I’ve placed my finger on. For instance, I long pressed on the word finger and the cursor went up to to the paragraph break.

This is absolutely broken for me.

I think you’re right. But it seems that before you could just long press on any word you were composing, get the options and the haptics. I’m struggling with what’s happening now. And I’m not a bitch. Just regular stuff I do.

Ok. So when I’m composing and I double tap on a word it takes me either in front of or behind the word. If I double tap on the word again, it SOMETIMES selects the word.

All I’m saying is I used to be able to long press on a word in a composing situation and it would give me normal options and haptic feedback.

That is gone.

Perhaps the speed of the double tap might be playing a role?

https://www.macrumors.com/how-to/use-text-editing-gestures-iphone-ipad/ might be of some help as well.

Wow I thought it’s only me. 😳

I'll try this on my s/o XR now on ios 14 and get back to you. On my max it seems to work fine. I don't think it's identical to ios 13, but muscle memory seems to have adapted.

The lowercase thing I believe was said to be some xenforo bug (posted in the SF&F forum)

Is this going to be a stand-up fight, sir, or another bug hunt?

All we know is that there's still no contact with the colony, and that a xenomorph may be involved

iPhone 11 Pro Max on 13.5 - I've had this issue intermittently, where I can sometimes tap on a misspelled word to get it to change, but other times, I have to double-tap - and then it doesn't offer the spelling replacement.

Yep. It’s all over the place. Not in a good way.

Finding exactly the same issues as the OP.

Compose a message here. Need to edit say between word 7-8, click between the 2 words and the cursor jumps to word 22.
