Hi there!
I need to be able to write a small amount of text - say, only 3 words or so, and get my iBook to say it (easily done), but I need it to save that little bit of speech as a audio file.

I did used to have a Demo Application that I downloaded from the Apple OSX section of their website, but it got deleted and now I can't find it again. That did the job - all I can remember about it was that after so many words of text it would tell you to buy the full version.

Can anyone help? I don't really want to use the Microphone, it does do the job but there is always a bit of background noise there.

Thanking you in advance.

Not quite answering your question, but in Tiger there is a "say" command:

$ say "only three words"

You can save the output:

$ say "only three words" -o output.aiff

Hope that helps,

You can do quite a lot with that little script or rather you can inserts tags (commands) into the text so that you can get the emphasis, inflection and pauses just the way you want...

I can't seem to find the resources for that at the mo, though. :(

Edit: Found it on my Mac and made a PDF of it for anyone interested in messing around with this kind of thing.
