There is no automatic way to switch to a smaller-size version of the forums, but for a given thread you can use a URL like

https://forums.macrumors.com/printthread.php?t=132822​

instead of the usual form of

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/132822/​

to display it without avatars and other "junk".

Thanks Q. I have seen when I search a thread in google, it brings up the print version. I guess I can always change the URL to the printthread.
