I'm kinda curious how did it take a week to get spotted. Regardless, if implemented, I think it would be nice (but to be fair, I don't see if that's very important when we have Notes for small notes and Pages for actual text).
I was going to mention the same thing.

And aren't the iWork apps free? Other than barebones RTF and TXT format editing and removing all formatting I don't see why TextEdit would be a big deal.

I hope users aren't still editing HTML in text edit.

I wish Apple would buy atom.io and apply their process to it.

Make it lightening fast and reliable yet still retain the vibrant community!

I think that if Apple put TextEdit on the App Store, then it would serve a purpose for those who have files on a Mac that are of some use.

But for the majority of users, including it as a stock app would only confuse them as Notes and Pages are useful enough. One upside however is that the app is bound to be very small in size, compared to Pages 500+mb.

If we already have Pages and Notes (free) AND they're pushing 365 (paid), can someone explain why we'd need TextEdit as well? Not intended to be snide, could just be something I'm overlooking lol.
Neither Pages nor Notes are designed to handle plaintext documents. Textedit is.

I suppose it is something thats more useful to web designers and programmers than your average user. But then again it would let you open more files from your desktop now that we have access to that through continuity.

I'm more interested in why we're seeing app icons in the multitasking app switcher. Has that finally been redesigned?

What's shown here is just the regular Springboard "app" that's already there in iOS 9 if you scroll to the far right in the task switcher view.

There's also a Game Center app and that's dead, so....

Is it sad that this intrigues me way more than anything in their presentation?

Sad? No. Contrarian? You bet.

Textedit is basically a pointless app.

A way of syncing pdfs between Mac and iOS would be welcome as well. A default PDF viewer with annotation features would play nicely with the Apple Pencil (even though I am already using Notability and PDF expert).

There are apps today that sync between platforms, and your can do it with iOS 9 using iCloud, but macOS Sierra and iOS 10 will make it easier.

I would be happy with this. I still use Text Edit on the Mac all the time. All of those documents are stored in iCloud these days. To have those available on iOS, like almost everything else, would be great.

I don't use Pages. Too much overhead. Hard to explain. There's a difference, and TextEdit is what I want.

I use TextEdit all the time and really like it. It's a little more than Notes, a little less than Pages, it's just right.

Apple has gotten rotten. Apple boycotts Republican convention but does business with China, Russia, and the Arab countries where civil rights and LGBT rights are violated, and gays are put to death? Apple hypocrisy. Been an Apple buyer since 1984. Now Apple is Big Brother. No more!

Be honest, it was the TextEdit news that has really pushed you over the edge though, right? :D

On my Macs I use no less than three apps for putting text into documents, and neither Notes nor Pages are on that list. Only reason I use Notes on my iPhone or iPad is because TextEdit isn't available. I wouldn't be caught dead using Pages for anything on any platform.

Now, I'm not so arrogant as to believe nobody else uses Notes or Pages in the world, or that they're "pointless" because I don't particularly like or need them. Would be cool if other people would accept that perhaps there are those of us in the world who like and need TextEdit, and maybe would like continuity features and the ability to open and edit such files on their mobile devices, even if they themselves don't have a use for it.

So, I would be thrilled if TextEdit finally made its way to iOS, and hopefully with a better icon. It should probably be an optional download as well.

Not sad, it's more of a reflection of how gimmicky most of the new "features" are. Apple finds itself hard pressed to match Samsung and Google's innovation.
Samsung and Google are the industry leaders of gimmicks and half-baked imitation features. Guess again.

The iPads used for demos at Apple events have to run a verson of iOS that isn't public ally released. Can't people just accept that Apple may use apps internally that aren't released to the public?
