I understand textedit can save .docx files... but can it read them as well? I don't believe I've been able to open .docx files before...

Anyways, I was mostly wondering if there's any way to set Textedit to open up .doc files and Word to open up .docx files. Everytime I open up a file that's not .docx I'd much rather use the less intensive Textedit.

Right. Click on a .DOC, then CMD+I. Under the heading of Open With: in the new Info windows, go to the drop down box (Should have Word in it) and change it to TextEdit. then press the Change All button.:D

As for TextEdit opening .DOCX, I don't know. I only use .DOC and .ODT from OpenOffice.

Just tried it and Text Edit can open .docx files.
