My friends and I are heading to Vegas for a few days. We found a cheap flight but we are all scattered amongst the plane. Has anyone found any app to text or message on the plane without signing up for overpriced, and half the time dead, wifi?

Yes. T-Mobile has a deal with United. I think it is with Boingo that lets you text and listen to voicemail while airborne. It worked great.

Write messages on some paper, then fold them into paper aeroplanes and wing them in the general direction of the recipient. Other passengers will kindly pass them to their intended target if you and your friends ask nicely.

Sadly we are flying US Airways and all of us either have Verizon or ATT

Sorry, but unless US Airways will let you use Bluetooth or cell service for free, or send messages over WiFi for free, there's no way to send messages while avoiding the cost of WiFi.

Yeah, there's no way for you to send messages via your cell phone unless you use the inflight wifi.
