text's and music gone

Yesterday I plugged my iPhone 3g to sync it and it erased all my text's/mms messages and now today I did it and it erased all my songs. So any ideas why it might be doing this.. This is the first time I have ever experienced this sorta thing.

any help.. And no i have not changed my settings in itunes.. everything is set to manual up date and no automatic sync.

You need to give more detailed info as to what you are doing in your sync. What's checked off in the tabs?
