    Hello,

I'm new to all this steam account and orange ox stuff. If I want to play TF2 on my Mac, what EXACTLY do I need to do? Can't I just go to the store, buy TF2, install it via crosover or something? Or do you HAVE to make a steam account and download the entire thing? (that would mess up my download limit)

    Thanks!

Ps: ANyone with a SR MB tried playing this?

if you are running Leopard, install windows via boot camp. Otherwise, upgrade to Leopard, and then install windows via boot camp. You can then go get the Orange Box from your local store and install all the games on it with the discs, but, all updates(which come out about once a week) will have to be downloaded. So maybe take your lappie to a coffeeshop with free wi-fi or something to keep from going over your limit. Though I don't know if your macbook can play Half-Life...so I don't know if it would even be worth it to install those games. And I think there is probably only a couple hundred mb of updates between Portal and Team Fortress 2. Steam updates itself all the time too. Hope this helps clear some confusion.:apple:

You can buy from a store and install via Crossover (don't, the performance is terrible compared to Bootcamp).
I believe, since I only buy in Steam, that the store bought game will include Steam. This ties up the communications (community and friends), updates and server listings in 1 package.

Valve release bug fixes and updates all the time. There's a big one coming shortly that brings in some more Achievements for the Medic.

MacBook: reports are that it plays better in CrossOver (probably a combination of no windows overhead and it uses DirectX 8) than with Windows XP. The default install /settings of Vista is not good for playing games on MacBook.

There is a demo of CrossOver. Try it.

It may be faster to buy the retail box, if you have a slow net connection, because it's multiple gigs of files.

Either way buying retail or online, you have to install steam to activate the game. The game will be registered to you either way, and you really can't sell it under steam terms even if you have the retail box...

Well, some said they have good luck if they said they registered to the wrong account, but don't count on it.
