I'm thinking seriously about replacing my honkin' big PC with a Mac -- ideally with a Mac Pro, most likely settling for a Mini instead. I already have a really sweet 1920x1080p widescreen LCD, so I'm not interested in an iMac (shame on Apple for not offering a consumer level tower).

I currently have an older 1.6Ghz Core Duo Mini that work provided me, so I'm familiar with the machine, and in fact upgraded it from the Core Solo that it originally came with (so not afraid of poking around inside either).

Here is my concern though. Performance-wise, my PC is a step up from the current Minis - I have an AMD x2 CPU@2.6Ghz in there, an nVidia 9600GT, etc. etc. I really have one gaming vice, which is Team Fortress 2, which runs beautifully on this LCD @ 1080p. Would I have to give that up to make the switch? Anybody playing TF2 or Half Life2 or other similar games on the new Mini without a hitch?

One other thing, does it make sense to wait a couple of months to see if Snow Leopard is released soon? (Or does Apple provide a free or cost-of-shipping upgrade if you buy a new machine right before a new OSX release?)

    Thanks,
    Dan

Searches could have answered your questions.

    1. It will run TF2 at a reasonable frame rate, under Windows via Boot Camp.

    2. SL isn't coming out until the Sept/Oct time frame. If you are willing to wait that long then yes you will get it as a free upgrade but also the next hardware refresh will be just a few months away at that point.

    3. Apple doesn't offer free upgrades to the next OS any more than MS does.
