Oh that’s disgusting. I don’t even think a movie should be made about it, unless the net profits go to the kids affected.

Disgraceful attempt by Trump to try and claim credit on Twitter: #ThaiCaveRescue. What a jerk.
To be fair, if the US is helping out with the rescue operation in a meaningful way, we should give credit.

As a scuba diver, let me tell you - cave diving is a whole different beast. Navy SEALs are trained for a lot of things, but cave diving isn't one of them. This is technical diving to the max. Staging bottles, multiple mixed gases (wrong bottle at the wrong time - you're dead), long decompression stops, taking your gear off and pushing it through the crevasse ahead of you. And this isn't pool water. Where the cave narrows, the currents will be strong and if you stir up the bottom your visibility will go to zero. Oh, and once you start, you are on the clock for how much air you have on you and there is no way to bail out in the middle.
I attended the Combat Diver Qualification Course and What you said is accurate. Outside of training I haven't done cave diving but in training it was still challenging.

I've often admired Elon Musk but I'm surprised at the way he's handled his part in this... and the solution his team came up with

Edit ... On a positive note - 5th one out!

What surprised me the most about this situation was the fact that the kids had traveled about 2.5 miles into the cave system. How did they get to some of those points and the coach not say, "Ok, far enough, lets turn back."

It rained, the cave behind them became flooded and so they needed to escape the rising water levels. Going deeper into the cave was in fact going upward.

There’s a main cave a bit further in that they were probably heading for. That’s my guess anyway. Sure we’ll find out from them directly once they start giving interviews.

I wasn't going to post anymore on this but there's a cracking interview with Ben Reyments one of the cave divers brought into help. (I guess it's possible this might not work outside the UK but if you can listen to its it well worth doing so...)
