I'd have to agree that Apple's hardware quality controls have dropped with all the subcontracting to China and increase in sales, but to SnOwball, who said Mac laptop quality isn't up to PC laptop quality - just consider all the different surveys, including Consumer Reports and others, that consistently show that actual buyers are more satisfied and rate the quality of their purchases much higher with Apple notebook computers than other brands, by a wide margin. Also, the customer service/support is rated, over and over, higher by a wide margin over the second place company in most surveys. This says to me that if Macs are not as good as PCs in quality/support, then who/what company is making the better quality machines that don't ever show up in these surveys? They sure manage to keep it quiet somehow, if it's true.

Just don't focus on the forums thinking it's a normal cross-section of users, because every gripe will usually surface here, which makes sense. Just don't lose perspective and consider the millions of Mac buyers out there who never post on these forums. Most of them (80%) rate their experience and satisfaction as very high, and would buy Apple again. You just don't hear from them here, because they're happy working with their machines being productive.

Agree with previous poster, how can apple quality be any worse or better than pc manufacturers when they're all using the same commodity parts assembled by the same companies in communist china?

I've got an old school mac friend who has been using macs exclusively since he bought his first one the day the challenger blew up. I have often heard him refer to what he calls 'the first mac commandment': Thou shalt NOT buy a version A!
