Did you have a reason to expect the Verizon music software to work on your MBP? It's not like you can plug a Zune into your MBP either....

It sounds to me like you acted impetuously and you want someone else to take the blame for it. Sorry.

I'm not sure how reading reviews was really acting impetuously. There was an entire article where they compared the LG Voyager to the iPhone and gave point by point comments and the LG Voyager won out.

A few months ago I did ask to see an iPhone at an AT&T. I fully admit that I probably should have tried out a Voyager.

I would have accepted paying a restocking fee or some such, but fortunately it didn't come to that.

I saw the vid awhile back. If the phones are going head to head with features, the Voyager won (back then). But the iPhone is not only a better phone, once 2.0 comes out it will wipe the Voyager in you know where.

Yeah, I looked at them on eBay, but they were too expensive for me to get the same one as I have or anything better. I have a Motorola E815 with a broken screen.

They are $50 for Buy-it-Now, in good used condition, you have a MBP and Mac Tower and you can't afford a $50 replacement phone?

I just went over the categories they used and selected a winner:

Sexiness - iPhone - No need to say more.

Navigation - iPhone- the iPhone's navigation is slightly easer to use, not by much.

Features - Voyager- the iPhone has Wifi, the Voyager has EVDO and a real keyboard.

Music/Video - iPhone - the Voyager's music and video players are usable at best.

Call Quality - Voyager - AT&T sucks compared to Verizon at quality and dropped calls.

That makes the iPhone my winner by a slim margin of 3-2. That sounds about right. I really don't think the cnet article was that far off.

the voyager is NOT a smartphone so i dont think it should be compared to the iphone at all. you wouldnt compare the original enV to the iphone, however the people at CNET (and the technology retarded masses) are idiots and think because they are both touch screens that they must be compared.

Alright, who paid off cNet? and others for good reviews against the iPhone? I haven't personally used it, but based on what I am reading how could it be rated higher then the iPhone or even close?

The thing to remember about CNET is that they have an anti-apple bias. They were running articles in January of '07 explaining how the iPhone would suck and it would only sell based on the wow factor.

CNET is useful in one respect: If you're looking for a high-end, name brand electronic item, they probably reviewed it well. So if you want a several thousand dollar camcorder, or a high end DSLR, or TV, etc, chances are they loved it. If it costs what a normal person would pay, they probably slammed it for not having the features of the more expensive models. CNET has a severe bias against consumer items and leans heavily towards prosumer products. With the inexplicable exception of their iPhone/iPod hate, which I think probably comes from their ties to many competitors, and it's either a misguided attempt to stay neutral, or they're really personally anti-apple and it comes through.

CNET head to head video reviews - a joke!

If you look at all the apple "head to head" video comparisons on CNET, the only thing they always give apple is the sexiness. It'll be close but "Pow!" as the video reviewer says the non-apple product will score a win somehow...

It's bad. I look at a lot of the reviews on Cnet, but I also read the user reviews as well. I don't read any of their Mac/Apple reviews, because of the bias.

Definitely. As long as it's a shiny qwerty and can be hidden in a textbook rather easily, teenage girls don't care whether it has UMTS or not.

And guys. I know lots of guys who complained about the iphone because they wuldnt be able to text easily in class. They got in anyway. Your welcome Apple. :D

I dont think he is trying to place the blame on anyone at all. Nor do i think he did the right thing. Don't ever trust reviews alone, but if you do, atleast know what your getting into. Luckily the OP was able to get his money back, but as far as sending the blame elsewhere, no, he just made a poor decision. Live and learn.

That's why the iPod touch is their highest-rated mp3 player, the MacBook among their highest-rated laptops, and the MacBook Pro the highest-rated laptop in its price class, amirite? Damn that anti-Apple bias.

Different phones for different people. I know a good amount of people that have had iphones and hated them. Everyone's experience is unique.

Sorry to say, I've checked out the Voyager at a Circuit City down the road, and it had a very "CHEAP" feel to it. Too much plastic and the "touchscreen" turned out to be a hit and miss adventure. The TV thing w/UGLY antenna was not functioning and the Verizon rep. had no idea what he was selling other than a 2-year plan and porting my wife's number. He must have forgotten he was selling a phone as well, b/c he couldn't get the plan right or the actual number of minutes and text messages available. So, I had my wife call me on my iPhone and the Voyager had bad reception and static in the background and she couldn't figure how to turn the volume up, nor could the Verizon rep. for that matter. After about thirty minutes we ran out the door and back to the Apple Store. The only nice thing was the LG Voyager had a small, but decent screen. Just a reminder, it's not an easy touchscreen to move around from one website to the next, in fact it was pretty slow, and at times unresponsive to the touch, and the Verizon Mobile is the worse I've seen yet on a phone, but I'm biased by the iPhone's OS.:cool:

I read the head-to-head on cnet where they actually rated the LG Voyager better than the iPhone. So, yesterday I purchased an LG Voyager and received it today via FedEx. Long story short, it's horrible. The web browser was almost impossible to use via touchscreen. There were very few features for a supposedly feature-rich phone. Biggest problem of all was that I could not run easily the music software on the new macbook pro I just purchased. (A deal breaker considering the cost of the MBP.) I immediately called and told Verizon I'd be switching to AT&T and returning the phone. I guess I'll have to wait a bit for the new models though. :(

On the bright side, at least the guy at Verizon was very nice and said I'd get 100% of my money back since I cancelled on the first day of activation.

You have 30 days to try out the LG Voyager to see if you like it....you can return it for a full refund within that time...

Do you mean to say that you bought the phone without trying it? Amazing...
What features did you "read" about that were not on the phone?

I just don't get why people care if the iPhone is better than the Voyager or vice a versa..can't people just have their own opinion. Why does the "other phone have to be "****" just to make your phone ok....if you like the iPhone buy the iPhone..if you like the Voyager buy the voyager.

Make no mistake though...Verizon is a MUCH better network. I have an AT&T phone for work and the service sucks...I own the LG Voyager and like it a lot. would have picked the iPhone because I like it better but no way was I going to switch to AT&T

If the iPhone was so good...what were you doing buying the Voyager in the first place? Shouldn't your wife realized that you already had the best phone...what a joke....

I was at the mall today and walking by a Verizon store.
I figured I'd drop in for a few to play with the voyager just for giggles.
Let me tell you, its nothing even close to the iphone.
The navigation and menus suck. Every time you use the small touchscreen the thing vibrates and feels funny. Typing on the keyboard felt funny prob cause Im used to the iphones virtual keyboard. I walked out shortly after, that LG aint got nothing on the iPhone.

I have an AT&T phone and have dropped maybe 5 calls in 5 years.
I have friends with Verizon who b*tch about their service all the time.

Anecdotal evidence does not equal solid fact.

I own the iphone and would trade for the Voyager any day. 3 reasons:

Can't get calls while browsing on Edge (3g iPhone will fix this)
Verizon service better and rest of family has Verizon
Since the last software upgrade(7), Voyager browser really zips along on 3 g.
