Looks stunning but my £799 SS is my limit for my Apple watch big I do love my SS
Your comment is understandable as that is a general choice of majority watch wearers and SS is a common traditional watch material for generations while ceramic is uncommon and not traditional (modern and artistic). As you love your SS, it is also common to love what we have and can get. It makes sense.

If you can afford it and enjoy it why not...buy what you enjoy is what I’ve always said. I don’t go out every weekend drinking so I spend my money on tech. Works for me

That’s double my limit for an Apple Watch or any smart watch for that matter but the stainless does look nice. I contemplated picking up a second hand SS S4 off eBay for £250-300 instead of getting the S5.
Your comment is understandable. Buy something within the budget.

Would make sense if you don’t care about AOD it’s a great price as it’s basically the same watch

It’s more a mindset for me personally rather than a budget to be honest.

Indeed, I can’t be bothered to cancel the order and go with that now lol. I’ll enjoy the S5 and maybe do that next time around.

Ceramic withstands scratches well, just don't drop it. Unlike aluminum, stainless steel and titanium it can shatter.

Everyone says this about ‘don’t drop the ceramic’, but does anyone have any literal experiences of the ceramic ‘shattering’ with a drop. I would base the ceramic not just on the material, but the height the watch is dropped from and what type of surface does it land on? That seems more practical to consider versus just saying ‘Don’t drop it’. A lot of variable play into this. Just because you drop the ceramic watch, doesn’t mean it will shatter/break.

i am also curious to also see if there's been a shattered ceramic.. as heartbreaking as it is..

I've dropped my Series 3 multiple times on wood floors (I only take it off at home...), and it never broke. I also banged it multiple times.
Haven't banged or dropped my Series 5 yet 😇

Those are absolutely meaningful considerations, but I've seen plenty of people on these forums post "I dropped my XYZ and now it's shattered, it wasn't that big of a fall, hip-height maybe, and the floor was just hardwood so not that hard, and I thought Apple said this thing was tougher than before."

If this forum's tech-dropping, incredulity-posting population doesn't see the difference between "tougher" and "impervious", or that hip-height is pretty damn high for something made of glass or ceramics when there's a hard surface waiting at the end of the fall, then "just don't drop it" is going to have to do. Anything more detailed is just asking for poking holes.

I've never dropped my Apple devices and lo and behold, none of them have ever shattered. It's solid advice.

I wear mine throughout the week, it’s in my current rotation of 4 watches, it’s definitely my favorite watch.

I am a bit disappointed that Apple dropped the Edition series. The white looks great, by the way!

I got rid of mine once I got the Ultra. The battery life and features just don't measure up to the Ultra and I won't ever go back to wearing any of the regular Apple Watches again.

Im wondering if there is any way of making an Ultra a white ceramic edition by custom coating it? Anyone know of any companies who do this? That would simply be the ultimate watch for me!

The ceramic coating is not something you would apply with a brush. I am pretty sure the watch body would have to be baked in an oven so the watch would have to be taken apart and reassembled. Who is going to do that?

So I went to the Apple Store today to enquire about the possibility of having extended Apple Care or Care+ on my S5 Ceramic. As ever the staff there (Westfield, West London) were so helpful and informative....

  • You can not get Apple care placed on the device after 60 days of initially purchasing the watch
  • Therefore you can't purchase ad-hoc Care which is what I was hoping to do in case I damaged my watch
  • Battery replacement outside of warranty is approx £70 plus VAT (I forgot to ask if it is definitely replaced FOC if the % falls below 80%.
  • The cost of a complete replacement watch is approx £780 plus vat outside of warranty which is not too bad seeing as they sell for that sort of value in the 2nd hand market...

Wow that stinks. While at the Apple Store the associate filled me in that I might be eligible to enroll the ceramic in the AC month to month if it hadn’t expired. I lucked out.

Have to admit have not even seen anyone else wear a S5 Ceramic out in public given how many AW's are worn by people. Loving mine and they seem to becoming more and more rare these days.

I've never seen one in the wild but boy are they pretty! I'd simply never have that kind of money. AW Ultra was a HUGE purchase for me.

Me neither but mine was at least recognized once by someone who asked me if that was a ceramic and told me how cool it was.
