That sliding door thing when selecting items on the dock

For example: if I have a Text Edit document on the Dock along with the Calculator on the Dock, a sliding door will happen when selecting between the two. If I wanted to view the Text Edit document and the numbers saved on the Calculator at the same time, it's not going to let me to do so. I know I'm probably describing this wrong, so please forgive me. 🙂

Not sure exactly what you mean but I think you either have single app mode or stage manager enabled. Try turning that off.

This is an older post, but I just caught this now, in case you hadn't found an answer.

Perhaps the "sliding door" effect is occurring because the Calculator and TextEdit apps happen to be in different spaces, for some reason. macOS calls this "Mission Control".

A "space" in macOS is like a separate desktop. You can switch between the spaces using keyboard shortcuts or trackpad gestures. The keyboard shortcuts are listed under System Settings - Keyboard - Keyboard Shortcuts - Mission Control. The trackpad gestures are found in System Settings - Trackpad - More Gestures - Mission Control.
