The ASUS UX305 is .48" (vs RMB's .14-.52") and weighs 2.64 pounds (vs. RMB's 2.00 pounds). It's HDMI port is a micro-HDMI port which is useless as is the circa-1997 SD Card reader.

Technically, the MacBook is thus still thicker at its thickest point. Apple really likes to point out both numbers even though it doesn’t make the overall product thinner due to its wedged shape. While the Zenbook is heavier, it also has a bigger screen. Regardless how you would like to spin it, the Zenbook is not a knock-off and an impressive achievement compared to what Apple calls its “Light. Years Ahead” MacBook.

The new 12" MacBook retina is beautiful Apple product BUT I have love-hate affair with it! Why? Because I have owned twelve MacBook since April this day. The latest one is 3 weeks old. I'm very disappointed to see how this premium product keeps lot of issues. Keyboard fails, hinge issues etc…otherwise Mac is awesome product. Screen - love it! The size, keyboard - I like it a lot (when all keyboards working) etc.

My last Mac (and few others ) made sound like this video link below. Now my newest one start cracking too. :( I'm so tired to return Mac - almost 5 month without Mac was looong time without computer so now I'm not sure what to do…is so frustrating owns such a fabulous product and at the same time say what kind of scrap it is…

Have you noticed these cracking/clicking problems with your new Mac? I'm curious to hear.

At this rate you just have to accept that it’s a design flaw. It happens. When I bought my 2008 MacBook I learned my lesson with respect to first generation products and I will not make that mistake again. Apple is mostly premium when it comes to designing beautiful products and its customer service, but the products are still mass produced in the same factories as everything else.

Read some of the reviews, it's thought of as "very good for its price". Not some technological world-beater. It's a value play for those who can't afford the real thing. It's a $699 notebook for Walmart, you can't compare it to an Apple.

Post some links then, I’m genuinely curious. The MacBook is not a technological world-beater either. It has a user niche, but that’s about it. You are free to spend money on whatever you like, but don’t be misguided on what you have bought. Apple has had more impressive laptops not so long ago and it’s pretty significant how competitive the electronics market has become, even from that ‘cheap Taiwan manufacturer’.

Apple loves nothing more than to make exaggerated claims of greatness at each product launch.

Beginning decades ago, created by Steve Jobs the master pitchman, he refined his and Apple's craft at every years keynote presentations. The format was set, appear on stage and self congratulate, brag about the companies accomplishments in a way so convincing the data was believed by everyone.

Then and only then move on and hype the New Product.

So successful that alone drove up profits as everyone most naturally wanted to keep up with their friends that had the latest Apple product.

Fast forward to the present where unrealistic expectations of perfection are the norm, especially amongst first time buyers and perfectionists.

The worshippers then appear to defend the company. The Apple faithful and apologists immediately attack those that are having problems with their less than perfect products. Those with genuine problems experiencing the reality that they didn't get the perfection they craved.

Hence the "you can't make everyone happy" refrain has never been more true. :D

I completely agree, although a $50 quartz watch keeps better time than a $5k Rolex or a $100k Patek!
You're close but not quite accurate.

You don't have to spend a whopping $50.... but rather a measly $12 plastic digital watch will usually be more accurate at keeping time than any of the obscenely priced ultra luxury timepieces in my lush collection.

AND that's precisely the point of why our collections... right down to the fine print on the insurance policy, are known as "Luxury Timepieces" _not_ watches. :D

I run Windows 10 exclusively on my RMB.

My EVP title, my BMW, my beach house, my model kids, and my trophy wife project the proper image; the notebook brand is the least of my concerns. That said, ASUS is a discount brand from Taiwan, not of the design/quality standards of Apple by any stretch.

Holy crap that gets old reading the same thing again and again. I really hope your ego really isn't this over-inflated in reality as well. Seriously. Snobbery is never seen as a desirable personality trait.

My first macbook had a defective "delete" key, but since getting the new one, when they first launched, it has been fine it all aspects.

Was just making the point that I don't need a brand on a notebook to feel prestigious which was the other posters claim.

Ive heard this from a few owners too - regarding just not having the oomph that it needs. Thats because it is first and foremost supposed to be extremely portable & "cool" device. It certainly is. Not saying aits a bad machine but its quite underpowerd & underfeatured for what it costs. You are paying a HUGE premium for it be that light and cool".

Yeah, I actually found in my time owning it, it got really warm (I owned 2 so it wasn't isolated to one unit). I really loved the size. Let me point out that I'm NOT a power user... I literally use it for surfing the web, emails, minimal flash\HTML5 content, watching videos, etc. Not anything processor intensive. I just couldn't get past the lag of the performance. Those in this forum have said oh it's OS X ... BS... my MacBook air SCREAMED, and my rMBP screams... it's not the OS, it's the fact that we're trying to run a desktop class OS on a tablet with a keyboard.

That said, it's a great little computer with a bright future, it's just too slow and doesn't keep up with the speed I'm used to running at (5k iMac, rMBP, Air)... so no matter how cool and fun it is, it's ruined by the feeling of going back in time performancewise for me. :-(
