I bought the 17 uMBP mainly because it was the most portable and powerful 17 inch laptop. All the other 17 inch laptops would probably break my hands and my back if I were to carry them around the school.

Especially with a fragile and vulnerable laptop like the MBP17. There are good reasons why it's still the lightest 17-incher - and it is definitely showing the limits of the 'unibody' construction.
