Will be giving Homefront a rental try, but not hoping for much.
Homefront is a strange bag...
The single player is complete & total @$$. It was a literally a chore to get as far as I did in the game, before I quit it. The AI is horrible, there are incidents where you are supposed to follow the comp, only they stand around for no reason, so you run ahead and wait for them to open doors you aren't allowed to. Also the AI is always determined to stand in the spots you want to, pushing you in the line of fire. When they aren't blocking you from moving at all. I stopped playing after being told to rush to a copter, not being able to get in it, having to wait for the comp who weren't there, die getting in the helicopter after they finally show, and the game gets stuck loading the level again.
The game getting stuck loading was the last straw, on a game that already crapped all over my nerves & patience.
The multiplayer on the other hand...
Is what THQ should have been promoting. It's the alternative that I think a lot of CoD haters have been waiting for, until Battlefield 3 drops. It's basically Medal of Honor's done right. The first person view of CoD, but the large maps & vehicles of Battlefield. It has an interesting in game currency that is like an active alternative to CoD's perk system.
Another cool thing, is that since everyone seems to be going the way of EA with some kind of online pass, THQ has their own variation. There is level progression in the online portion, but you are limited to level 5 without the code. So you do get to play online without a code, and try the game. A nice idea.
I'd say Homefront is worth a rental, to see if the multiplayer is to your liking.
I'm hoping Crysis 2 is better. I didn't not care for the MP demos, but have been blown away by the vids of the single player.
Just finished Dragon Age 2. Does so much right, does a vast amount wrong. 26 hours in basically the same area, same recycled dungeons. Thank god the character dialogue saved the game for me, because whilst graphically and gameplay is improved on the first, the lack of 'event' in the game was very disappointing. You keep expecting the game to build into a crescendo, you expect it to go places and then 26 hours later toy realise you haven't gone anywhere you didn't go in the first two hours of playing. Shame really, but at least it's one of the few games I've actually completed lately.
Next to finish Bulletstorm, Lego Harry Potter and give Killzone 3 a bit more time before 3DS FridayPilotwings 3D
Will also pick up Sims Medieval for my mac, and Lego StarWars : clone wars either on Ps3 or 3DS
DA2 RAGED me so much, I haven't booted my PC into Win 7 to play it since the first day of being disappointed.BUT, once my schedule opens up, I'll get back to it. I'm just going to play it like an ACTION game and ignore the fact it's supposedly a sequel. Then I think I'll have fun with it.
Getting me 3DS AND Pilotwings tomorrow, I HOPES! I didn't pre-order one and I might not get out of the house until late afternoon.![]()
The action part is the least you need to be concerned about. It's the same 5 small locations replayed over and over and over for 26+ hours that is the real grind gameplay wise to be honest.
I just kept screaming give me more that Kirkwall and open up that freemarches map. Sadly this does not come to pass.
Also as I'm playing through again on the mac as a female warrior (I was a male Mage on console) I can't help feeling that although I'm making consciously different choices and paths that it does really effect the inevitable chapter 'finale' points and the outcome is pre-defined.
I adored the dialogue and characterisation however. The way characters in your party chat amongst themselves or the way NPC characters comment on some of your more 'fruitful' choices in the game had me laughing, and their interactions felt utterly convincing and believable. That for me is it's real strength.
