Glad Rafael calmed down - Rooney and the midfield owe him a drink for leaving him exposed to the whole left wing of Real Madrid. Garbage from Rooney, and I don't get the Jones praise.

RVP fluffs again, waste of money. :)

Time to watch LB's lot

Cheers,
OW

Suarez guilty of missing some sitters, Reina with some excellent saves. Somehow it's still 0-0 at the half and I'd be happy to see it finish that way (though this game looks to have some goals in it).

Same old story then. Over-reliant on Suarez hence one-dimensional, and consequently sucker punched later on.

On a far happier note Ajax, beat Steaua Boekarest by 2 goals to nul.

Ajax fielded a very young team and after some hesitation they grew as the match went on. It could have been a lot more but I think that the emotions got in the way.

Former Columbus Crew (and Leeds & Stevenage) midfielder Robbie Rogers has come out of the closet and also apparently retired from football. Not long ago, Rogers was a teenage midfielder who showed a huge amount of promise. Unfortunately he never reached the heights as a player that his early career hinted at, but he had an exceptional season with Columbus in 2008 and played a big part in our league championship and Supporters Shield wins that year. He also managed 18 caps for the national team. And he's still only 25.

He didn't address it in his statement, but one wonders if Rogers felt that being gay was incompatible with his career in football. If so, it's a shame he felt he had to give up playing as a result of being 'out'. I suppose he's off to put more time into his clothing line or some such. Thanks for the memories and best of luck to you, Robbie!

I do feel sorry for him, that he feels he has to retire rather than carry on playing football, even if he DID sign for Leeds ;)

Just saw this when it was posted on the Chicago Fire's website with an interview from Frank Kloppas on the situation. Looks like Kloppas would welcome Rogers either way and has attempted to reach out to him. I applaud his actions for coming out and hope this is merely a short break in his playing career. As you mentioned he is a solid player and being only 25 still has plenty of gas left in the tank. I hope he reconsiders and joins Chicago for the upcoming season.

he has always been one of my fave Crewmates. did i coin a phrase...?

i wish he'd keep playing.

Some have been careful to point out that Rogers hasn't retired per se, but still his "stepping away" from the game makes a return sound unlikely.

I like to think he retired rather than go to Chicago. :D But in all honesty, I'd want him to do well even there. Football is a big commitment though, and if your head and heart aren't fully into it it's best to move on (ahem, Michael Owen)

Really can't wait till Gervinho is shipped out. Absolutely useless. This game proves we really don't have a '2nd team'

EDIT: ...and of course the sucker punch

EDIT:..and there it is, the second cupset.

Congrats to Wenger, The Board, and especially the Team on achieving another trophy-less season.

...and now it's the blue half of Liverpool's turn to look sheepish after having failed to beat Oldham - at home. I still expect Everton to go through, but there have been so many cupsets this season that I would not be surprised to see Oldham go through.

Stoppage time goal for Oldham makes it tough to swallow but I expect Everton to take the replay win when Oldham comes to Goodison on the 27th.

City and Chelsea showing how to play an FA cup match in front of your fans at home. Hope the Arsenal players (or donkeys as Piers says) from yesterday are watching

Haha, poor Gooners. Please continue to Trust in Wenger, its mighty fun to watch. Here's a tidbit i came across...
Since our last trophy in 2005, We sold 79 players who brought 52 trophies to their new teams and Wenger made 40 million pounds!-TheRealGunner(Twitter)

RVP, Cesc, and even Alex Song are set to add to those figures. Rumours from the same article also suggest Bould and Wenger are already locking horns. I dont know how true these are but its interesting nonetheless.

Gooners are a club in slow but sure decline. Your failure to achieve top 4 this season will be further proof of this.

But not to worry. Wenger still believes in the ever elusive "commitment" and "spirit" of his team, Hill has basically thrown in the towel, Gazidis doesn't really care about a top 4 finish, and Kroenke is showing his commitment by rarely attending matches and splashing £80m on a 124k acre farm...for himself.

So there you go, everything is absolutely peachy :D

*shrug*...meh. Can't even be assed to defend against these anymore. You're probably right and i'm currently in a state of apathy anyway.

On another note, good win for Liverpool. May end up overtaking Everton if they keep this up. Conversely, bad day at the office for Laudrup and his crew but there was always the risk given that he didn't field his arguably two best players; Ashley Williams and Michu.

He'll argue he was resting them for the Capitol One but is that really viable these days. Ronaldo and Messi play week in week out yet they never seem to 'tire', 'fatigue' or 'burnout'.

Just a question for the English posters.
The English football competition is the most congested in Europe, with EP League, FA cup, League Cup and European matches, how are replays fitted in and who decides this?

Eredivisie Results

Saturday

FC Twente 1 vs Willem II 1
Twente bad run continues, this was no advertisement for football a very messy game.

PSV 2 vs FC Utrecht 1
PSV were made to work for this win, not so much by Utrecht but by their own bad finishing. It was almost as if they didn't want to score.

Sunday

Vitesse 2 vs FC Groningen 0
Vitesse looked a far better team, and ran out easy winners.

PEC Zwolle 3 vs Feyenoord 2
Game of the weekend, the first half had everything and 4 goals. PEC in the end deserved their win. This game was everything that Twente and Willem II was not. Just fanastic end to end football.

RKC Waalwijk 0 vs Ajax 2
Ajax replaced all the forwards with young newcomers, and it worked, it also helped the RKC's Robert Braber missed a penalty in the 60th minute.
