Football is over and spring training is about to begin, pitchers and catchers have started to report and the first spring games will be played in a few weeks. Trades and news continues this week.

Wakefield reported to announce his retirement later today, Burnett might be a pirate soon and some sad news about Hall of Famer Gary Carter.

Braves have a lot of question marks...
Shortstop and Heyward being the most prominent
Freddie Freeman's sophomore season is also an unknown
As is Chipper's knees and durability

Pitching should be strong with the young arms developing
Along with the bullpen... barring injuries :(

Looking to possibly get a ticket package this weekend

here we go again :D lets see if the red sox can not suck this year.

Hope Varitek joins him on the golf course really soon

Happy trails, Wake. I must admit to needing alcohol for many of his starts, but he was always a true professional, and his role in the 2004 WS team will never be forgotten. When he was on, he made even the best hitters look like morons flailing about. When he wasn't...well, you'd see some moonshots.

It's going to be weird not to worry about whether his knuckleball will be fluttering or flattening. ;)

Jon Heyman has reported that the A.J. Burnett deal to the Pirates has been finalized by MLB.

And in other Yankees news:

Yankees Agree to 1 year Deal with Ibanez

And what I'm sure will become more and more obnoxious the further we get into the season:

Mariano says he knows if this will be his last season-won't reveal until the end.

I love Mariano, and don't want him to be one of those pitchers who pitch a few years longer than he should - I just hope this doesn't become a season-long story/distraction. Especially if we enter August/September and are in a position where we may not make the playoffs.

Ryan Braun has won his appeal and his suspension has been lifted.

Ryan Bruan Wins Appeal

Maybe I'm a pessimist, but I call BS. Did anyone believe that MLB would let a reigning MVP actually serve this suspension? It would just be another black mark for the game that they couldn't afford.

Edit:
Well maybe I'm wrong...apparently MLB is not happy (at least publicly) with the ruling of the Arbitrator:

Statement from Major League Baseball
Major League Baseball Executive Vice President for Labor Relations Rob Manfred issued the following statement today:

“Major League Baseball considers the obligations of the Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program essential to the integrity of our game, our Clubs and all of the players who take the field. It has always been Major League Baseball’s position that no matter who tests positive, we will exhaust all avenues in pursuit of the appropriate discipline. We have been true to that position in every instance, because baseball fans deserve nothing less.

“As a part of our drug testing program, the Commissioner’s Office and the Players Association agreed to a neutral third party review for instances that are under dispute. While we have always respected that process, Major League Baseball vehemently disagrees with the decision rendered today by arbitrator Shyam Das.”

Sorry, but I still think that MLB swept this under the rug.

MLB will always say, boo we disagree. Either side that loses arbitration will say that. Either Brawn knew what he was putting in his body or he didn't. We can't get pick and choosy about who has to serve suspensions because a player won the MVP. These players can't be that nieve when they didn't understand the side effects or those pills.

It really looks like he has won on a technicality:

from twitter:

Braun argued test protocol had not been followed. Collector took sample home & kept it refrigerated rather than get it to FedEx asap.

Appears Brauns team won because a courier didn't take positive test to fed ex building thought it was closed Saturday night..protocol?

Braun test sample collector thought FedEx/Kinkos was closed because it was late on a Saturday. MLB is livid and considering options.

I could care less what people think. Everyone that's not a Braun fan will think theres a conspiracy, it's a joke. He immediately took a 2nd test and passed. He was tested over 52 times previously and passed every time. He has herpes.

Even if he is on PED's I don't care. It's a part of the game Bond's is home run champion. Pujols, Bautista and many more are on roids. I'm just glad he's playing

Do you have any proof that Pujols is on roids or are you still bitter that your team got beat?

He's passed every test. More than what can be said about Braun.

Suspension or no suspension, all his credibility is gone. He won on a technicality - and that is going to haunt him for a long time-maybe his entire career.

Let's see how he handles this. He's not going to have an easy time on the road - and he shouldn't. I have no dog in this race - I'm a Yankees fan - but either way, it doesn't look good for him.

Michael Vick recently signed a 100 million dollar contract. Sure he still has his haters but he's not living like a criminal, he's living like a wealthy celebrity. Let's get real and have a little perspective here people.

How's that working out for Roger Clemens? Sammy Sosa?

Criminal activity seems to get more of a pass than cheating does...I guess only time will tell.

My perspective is that of a baseball fan - and I see someone who cheated and got away with it on a technicality. At least Michael Vick served his time.

I wonder where your "perspective" would be if we weren't talking about someone on your team.

Joke *smh*

To be fair to Brawn, those tests results shoud ave never been leaked, but they always seem to leak out somewhere from the MLB offices.

That being said, he did fail a test and it was made public, how many other players have failed do to a false positive based on medication? Either he didn't read the bottle saying what the possible side effects are or he is a cheater.
