Starhawk is very polished. Looks great, though requires you to use an overscan feature to fill out the tv display as they've clearly opted for some weird resolution in game. It very smooth, lag free, and the controller mechanics are extremely tight.

My biggest problem with Warhawk was a lack of single player. I much prefer to game solo, ad then breakout with occasional multiplayer, rather than be multiplayer only.

Its just a very well crafted job all round. Anyone into third person shooters, with easily accessible strategy elements will love it.

Just hard to fault a game so well crafted at what it is..

Again however not long into it (couple of hours) so I'm sure things will crop up that may bug me, but so far so good.

I quite disagree. Weapons are generic, single player has a boring story, not enough to build, and the game is quite unbalanced with vehicles costing so little. It's quite easy to setup a remote tank site, thats shielded bombing the spawn area. Vehicles have no damage from running into something so it also is quite easy to destroy the turrets and shield generators. I wish that I had not picked it up.

:) you've clearly played Multi-player more than me. I've only briefly played multi-player, most of my opinion was formed on the single player campaign's so far :)

As I said I'm sure things will crop up that bug me, and from your report it seems multi-player may do so. At least things like multi-player can be re-balanced by patches.

Or you could trade it in for Max Payne 3 next week ;)

I want Starhawk, but how the devil do you get it? I see on the PSN shop there is an online pass for sale, but that can't include the game. Is it PS+ exclusive at the moment?

It's a retail game, no? Your best bet would be to approach your nearest video game store.

Yep. Retail. The online pass is just the usual network pass to get some $$$ from the second hand market :)

Spent the whole week with Mortal Kombat vita and if your on the fence about it get off the fence and buy this game. This game is pack with extras and I actually forgot I was playing the vita version...its great. The characters are downgraded from the console version but once the characters get moving its easily forgettable...butter smooth gameplay and online as well.

I actually forgot I was playing the vita version:eek: .....its that good(I highly recommend)

MRU: Silent Hill downpour has a lockon system but I totally agree with you on everything. This is the Silent Hill I've been waiting on besides some technical problems. Don't forget to check out the side missions, it really puts meat on the lore.

Bless

Silent Hill Downpour : well to say I was reluctant to pick this up was an understatement. I love silent hill games of the past, but with the rather insipid HD collection recently released with shocking quality on PS3, and rather lacklustre reviews of his title, I had pretty much decided to pass on it.

Hated Silent Hill : homecoming too.

But something still tempted me and finally I gave in and I'm glad to say I rather like it for the most part.

Yes my biggest concern given video gameplay trailers was the combat and that still is the games worst aspect. It's just shockingly bad, and something hard to forgive given modern successes with horror combat such as Alan Wake. Heck even homecoming had better fighting mechanics. For the most part I just try to avoid combat and run away - just to avoid the shoddiness, but sometimes a badly swiping at thin air fight with a monster is inevitable, and it breaks the connection to the Silent Hill world the game otherwise gets right.

That being said I like the one thing this game manages to get right, and that's the atmosphere. The fog is back, the reliance on darkness and tension to create a feeling of being out of control of your own destiny, that your just a puppet in Silent Hills playground.

Now I'm only a couple of hours in, so my opinion could change, repetition could set in and such, but so far so good.

I'm also playing in Stereoscopic 3D. The framerate does take a bit of a knock in 3D but there is no screen tearing or visual sacrifices other than that, and the 3D in the game really does give the game another level of atmosphere. I played briefly without 3D to see the difference and although faster framerate, the screen tearing was pretty evident and the world just didn't elude the same creepiness. If you have access to 3D I'd definitely recommend this game be played in it.

Sounds like I might like it. I even liked Homecoming! :D But I made myself promise I wouldn't buy Downpour before I finish Homecoming. So I'll likely pick it up in the bargain bin sometime next year...oh, blasted backlog!

I got Crysis 1 from a friend via game sharing. Pretty fun for a five year old game! If I beat it and keep liking it, I may pick up Crysis 2 for cheap!

Picked up Starfox 3DS and ordered Kid Icarus.
Pleasantly surprised by Starfox. I was expecting the same art, music, sound... but it really is an enhanced port.

I expect to be wowed and annoyed by Kid Icarus.

Max Payne 3. Eyes hurt, one chapter away from beating the game in under a day. So much Max Payne. Messin' fools up badly

Anything different over Max Payne 2 fundamentally. Or same old repetitious ame. Fun but instantly forgotten after you've played it...??

I can't play Kid Icarus.

Terrible control implementation, even with the circle pad pro for Left Handed users the game is an exercise in frustration and pain / hand cramp.

Simply inexcusable tbh. I hoped they'd offer a patch for proper dual control via circle pad pro, but seems not.

I'm gonna trade it in as soon as Luigi is out.

Hmmmm... well it's different since frankly, bullet time is a lot less prominent. I think I have shoot-jumped a couple times since Max dies REALLY fast if you are in the open. Lots of dudes dying, sometimes if you get on a tear you can kill 10 guys while in slo-mo, but other times you will go a whole fight without using it.

I think the tone and story are great (a bit predictable) and the game is brutal violence towards people wise. Really crappy people doing crappy things to eachother and you really get the feeling Max has a crap life. I REALLY like it, but I can see people getting tired of the action half way through since the game doesn't really change too much throughout gameplay wise.

But Max Payne 2 is one of my favorite games ever so that could colour mea bit.

Pixel Junk games are $1 on PSN so I got:

Pixel Junk Monsters and the PSP version to play on the Vita (PSP version is $3.99 I think.)
Pixel Junk Racers
Pixel Junk Eden
Pixel Junk Shooter 2
Pixel Junk Side Shooter

I wished these worked on the Vita :(

Agreed with the tone and story. Rockstar produces some of the best games, and it's really the only reason why I still keep my xbox (aside from Netflix, even though I could get a Roku box).

Max Payne 3 is a wonderful game. The animation, the story line, and voice acting, almost everything makes the game feel like you're part of a movie, at least a movie thats better than Marky Mark's version of Max Payne. The cover system is definitely used much more than bullet time, at least I think. However, the cover system feels so flawed and out of place, but you can't just run and gun as much like you could in MP2; you will die much quicker.

Multiplayer: tried it out, but wasn't feeling it. It's a great concept, but I think I've honestly outgrown my online playing with other people. I have yet to find a game in a while that I've really enjoyed playing online. Hopefully GTAV will be awesome.

Kid Icarus arrived yesterday, played for 4 hours so far (total addictive time sink). Not sure about the control complaints! I know there are many, but I haven't found it uncomfortable yet. Incredible game though, the voice overs are especially good in battle "do you hear that? do you hear them cheering?", totally made me want to destroy some baddies.

Your right handed. Try playing it with your left ;)

Just played Spec Ops: The Line demo add that to the list :)

Yeah I played the demo and it was very good. Wasn't expecting anything and was pleasantly surprised :)

Yeah I was keeping my eye on it and just thought it was a gap filler played the demo and get really into it the A.I seemed a bit silly at times by just running at your player but apart from that looks very sharp and nice

For teh video games room;

Sony HTAS5 5.1 receiver+speakers
Sony KDL55HX853 55" 3DTV

+Krater for Steam :) (preordered it and had no time to play it yet, I hope it's good!)

Persona 4: Arena has finally been confirmed for a September release in the UK, so I have my pre-order in.

There's a new 360 shooter coming from Qute called Ginga Force which I'm hoping will be region-free.

And the Raiden Fighters curse has struck again, the game's never going to get a UK/Euro release it would seem.
