So Man City's 'almost but not quite' man has done the same again. Take the richest team in Turkey and fail to win the league. Well, the outcome is pretty obvious...

In other (and possibly more exciting news) Wednesday have a new benefactor

Owls fans are already planning for the arrival of Messi, Ronaldo and Suarez

In other, more confusing news, it was no surprise Leeds' new owner dispensed with the services of Brian McDermott, but seems he has no replacement lined up. Bit of a strange one, but then that's club ownership for you :)

I am watching a science magazine, with a small World cup / football section, for today's episode.

They were reporting about the dengue fiver. And we thought there is no more bad things to report about Brazil.

They also had a part about how Dortmund's Iduna Park pitch grass was developed in Switzerland.

The Day That Football Died (Part 836)

I am genuinely pretty bleedin' distraught over this.

I shall be even more distraught at the end of next season, at which point Özil and Ramsey will be agitating for transfers, Arteta and Rosicky will have been put out to pasture, and Diaby will have been humanely destroyed to make space for Walcott and The Ox in the treatment room.

I'm surprised Wenger didn't go for it. Would've been another positive sign for the fans and a morale booster given the 3% hike.

You may not need Fabregas but he gives something to any team. Wonder how he feels right about now. Turned on by his Barca and rejected by Arsenal.

The World Cup is Here!

Horrible, horrible dive by Fred. FIFA really want Brazil to win this. They are clearly in the "papering over cracks" business.

I think I'm pulling hard for Argentina and Spain to be the best teams in then tournament. Brazil might win the cup but they are not the best team out there.

Looks like Ronny has a bit of a gammy leg. here's hoping it's extra sore when it comes time for him to play the USA...

Unless Arsenal have a very big signing up there sleeve, I don't see how turning Fabregas down is wise.

I can't stand Chelsea, so I hope Fabregas has a horrible season and helps Chelsea fail to go anywhere. (As long as they finish fourth and keep Man Utd out of the CL. ;)). Sorry Cesc.

Meh. Think i'm slightly towards Wenger's side on this one. The damage of Cesc not wearing an Arsenal shirt has already been done over the course of 2 years post-departure. So things can't really get worse for us.

He should've left Barca last season before the arrival of Özil and revelation of Rambo. Or better yet he shouldn't have left the Emirates at all. Wenger did everything to keep him. But he insisted, refused to train, even opted to contribute to his transfer fee out of pocket, feeling he would replace Xavi and we all know how that worked out.

Our midfield is not lacking in creativity. Should we have brought him back? maybe.

But if that £30m buys a Schneiderlain, Griezmann or Jacko Martinez then its a no-brainer.

Plus i kinda have a prejudice against re-signing prodigal sons. Nasri, RVP, Clichy and Fabregas deserted Wenger when he needed them the most. Forcing him to start all over again. 2 of them were Captains no less.

That Fabregas joined Mou is a sure to burn his last bridges to majority of the Arsenal faithful. But fairplay to him. We get remunerated anyway.

Meanwhile Mou adds yet another midfielder to his collection. Can't wait to see that 4-5-1 formation next season.

Alex Song will be next.

Meanwhile, how about that Ref in today's match. Me thinks he should've gone to Specsavers. 2 for 1 bargain currently going on.

Couldn't agree more. Just watched the highlights on BBC iPlayer. Neymar should have been given the red card. Brazil should never have been awarded a penalty kick. Those refereeing mistakes are all it takes to make it look like a convincing victory.

Hmmm. If you weren't seduced by the 'Barça DNA' story then Cesc's agitations do look much shabbier, but you can't deny that he rarely gave less than his all out on the pitch.

I see very little Spanish football but the statistics make it hard to understand why the Barça management and fans appeared to turn against him. On the official club site yesterday evening his 'obituary' said "despite glowing starts to each campaign, Cesc’s contributions to the cause gradually decreased as each season drew to a close. From being someone who joined in with the attack, supplying and scoring goals, the magic tended to fade later on in each season. He only scored one, six and one goals in the last 24 games of each season. For some reason, he was never as good in the second half of a season as in the first."

That's a character assassination rather than an official statement. It's subsequently been replaced with the more subtly belittling "his return of 42 goals in 151 appearances is an impressive tally for a midfielder, mainly because he has also been played frequently in the ‘false centre forward’ role that is so popular at Barça".

Anyway... he walks into my World XI, he would have cost Arsenal about twenty quid when you take into account the monies still owed for both him and Song, and now he's been allowed to go to bloody bloody Chelsea. I agree that midfield (other than a proper DM) isn't Arsenal's main concern at the moment, but still... Chelsea... Mourinho... I think I've been a little bit sick in my mouth.

Barca has damaged their reputation further if those statements are true. It's blindingly obvious their trying to make themselves look good about the transfer. Barca's management division is becoming even more of a joke.

See that Cesc? there's very little love and sentiment in football. You're almost always just another pawn on someone's chessboard.

It was certainly up there – I saw it – but it might well have been the work of the youth trainee while the rest of their web team were having their siesta.

I suspect that Cesc's seasonal tail-off might be because he hasn't bought into Barça's doping programme.

No arguments here. He is a top player and can drive any team forward. I certainly wouldn't have cried foul if he came back. But at the same time i'm not really fussed that he won't be an Arsenal player next season.

Its annoying that Mourinho has him but i've already gotten over it. Same way i'm over Sagna joining City.

I'm not sure if it's the amount of Brahma's I've had affecting my eyesight, but the score says the Netherlands have scored 5 against Spain...
