The FA use Wembley too much, I agree. The semis should be played in other big stadia. Save Wembley for the cup finals, Coldplay concerts and the NFL. :D

Potentially we could have Hull City vs Sheffield United at Wembley as a semi-final match.

Whilst you can understand the FA wanting what would unquestionably be the biggest match of the season to be held at the national stadium, there's no logic in having two Yorkshire clubs travel all the way down to London when there are plenty of suitable grounds in the north. Just more expense and inconvenience for supporters - plus you just know it would be a 5.30pm or similar kick off just to make things really tricky for those wanting to travel.

In the US, this is really a non-issue - leagues simply schedule games without any regard to the ease of travel for fans.

Distances are vast, and as a result you don't see fans traveling en masse to away games (except when the teams play neighboring cities I suppose). The Super Bowl itself is no exception; corporations purchase big blocks of tickets and pass them out to their suits, employees of the month and whatever congressman they are currently bribing.

In the case of the UK though, it really does seem silly to make two teams from a similar area travel all the way down to Wembley. Then again, this is the FA we were talking about. They are about as cunning as Baldrick's plan for escaping the guillotine.

Please note that this only applies to the final. Wembley semi finals don't count, and should be played at a neutral venue.

Definitely. It devalues the final, when the 'big day out at Wembley' has already taken place the game before. Playing semis at Wembley just panders to the majority of Man U fans ;)

Still this years FA Cup has already been devalued :(

So how did that Baldrick fellow make out...?

Effing Wednesday...

Haha...what is going on in Greece.

United 2-0 down.

And the media were writing them off because Mitroglou had left the club.

so far not best round for the english clubs, three 0-2 losses

and after watching the olympiakos - manchester united game: oh god what happened to united .... the olymp. keeper didn't had to really do _anything_. How many chances where there from united ? 2 ?

Olympiakos didn't look great, but they took their chances well. United were abysmal until after the 90th minute. RVP missed a shot I would have expected him to bury 99 times out of 100. Kagawa was the only player showing any creativity.

What happened to Januzaj?

Replace Mata with Kagawa? No, slowly play it out to the wings to players whose accurate crosses can be counted on one penis. All that space behind Olympiakos, play Hernandez? No. Moyes bottled putting LP on for RVP and learnt sweet Fanny Adams from the Fulham game. Just a glimmer that he gets it and has balls and I'd be happy, but there's nothing.

Never heard of this Joel Campbell fella before, but his goal was pretty tidy. Arsenal fans are on Wikipedia reading about him in droves. :D

EDIT: I should remember him actually, because it turns out that he's the guy that egregiously feigned injury to get Matt Besler suspended during USA's loss to Costa Rica during WC qualifying. Check the video in the link at 5:40. Respect: gone.

Aberdeen beat Celtic yesterday - for the second time this season. Not that it matters in terms of Celtic's meaninglessly easy progression to the title.

I have briefly come out of MacRumors Football thread retirement to share with you this shocker.

I'd like to know what drugs Adidas were on when they decided to take the horrible Italia 90 away strip and add pink to it.

I like the history behind it - the Earl of Rosebery's racing colors - but the colors aren't quite right. It's...different.

Meanwhile, USA's new kits has been leaked...maybe. No word on how genuine it may be but it is evolutionary rather than revolutionary.

I'd like to see someone come out with a kit with a retro lace-up collar...now that would be cool.

Madrid look the real deal this season. Currently tearing Shalke to shreds. Huntelaar and Draxler haven't even had a sniff all game.

That front 3 (Bale/Jese, CR7, Benz) is deadly.

EDIT: Huntelaar gets a cracking consolation

Schalke only had a chance if they were i good form and real had been in bad shape

with real in good shape and schalke playing rather badly recently it was a rather obvious consequence

for the CL quarterfinals Schalke would really need some squad improvements: their defenders are average for a Bundesliga squad and all rather similar types (tall, immobile), Höwedes is a centre back playing in a right back position, Matip has the Demichelis syndrome,Santana wasn't good enough for Dortmund's bench and their left back choices are both not really that fast and either dubious at the back or useless at the front
both their keepers are also average for the Bundesliga already

against a opposition who plays many long crosses or prefers to play with target strikers, they aren't too shabby but against real it was a horribly miss-match

with their midfield not being able to win possession (xabi alonso: 85% won "50/50 situations", Boateng, the _best_ in the Schalke midfield: 30%) their good offensive players couldn't get into attacking rhythm

Chelsea fail to win at Galatasaray but all they need is a 1-0 win at Stamford Bridge to progress...and they are specialists in the 1-0 home win.

A very strong performance from Real. Schalke looked pretty slow.

like it but for the badge.

i like the throw back badge they have been sporting on the current home kit.

I agree, I wish they'd switch back tho the simple stars n stripes badge. The modern crest screams 1990s MLS - it might look better if they just got rid of the flying soccer ball bit.
