Blame lies squarely on Wenger's shoulders. Walcott, Rosicky and Flamini should on at 3-0. Play a back 6 slow the game down, pass the ball around and wait them out. He sat there twiddling his thumbs and then reacted when it was waay too late.

And now its the same old story. Face Bayern, Barca or Madrid in the next round and get kicked out.

Would Mourinho, SAF, Pep and co have let a 3-0 lead slip? No chance.

Increasingly less and less convinced by the Arsene. And tonight reminds why he'll probably never win the CL in his career.

Shocking stuff from Arsenal. Alexis is on fire but this was a game they should have won. My Arsenal-supporting office mate went home in a major funk. Heck, I was less cheesed off than he was and my team lost.

Seems Brendan has given up before kickoff even begins by fielding a second string side. But who knows they might pull off a miracle.

I disagree, I think Brendan rightly parked the bus with the best players for the job and in doing so gave Liverpool the best possible chance of a result, given how Real have steamrolled everyone else. I'm not even sure you could argue this was a second string side, they held Real to a single goal and Ronaldo, who always scores, didn't today. With Sturridge up top who knows, Liverpool could have even stolen a draw.

Not to mention that with Gerrard & Johnson on the pitch Liverpool would surely have conceded more.

Brendan's team selection vindicated somewhat. Should consider starting Borini and Lallana more often. More movement and threat. Bench Balo and Johnson indefinitely. Gerrard too.

There is no excuse for Arsenal. They botched it pure and simple.

Real Madrid sucked. Unprofessional; took the previous result plus the Liverpool line up to mean a day off from focusing - stroll around, smile at incomplete passes and missed chances... Shame Borini wasn't played in when hanging around the back all on his own - there were two opportunities to play the required pass.

woops, clicked on the thread thinking it was about American football.

carry on.

That was painful to watch. No urgency, no hunger, no drive. Graveyard stadium. CSKA deserved the 3 points.

What's up with the English teams?

Arsenal - same old Arsenal really. They'll still qualify I'm sure, but do it the hard way, will play someone big in the knockout stages, loose the first game, will either win or draw the second game but will still be eliminated

Chelsea - Again, they'll still qualify. Maribor played it like a cup game and got their reward for a spirited performance. Cracking goal as well!

Man City - A difficult group for sure, but you'd expect a squad of that value to put on a better show rather than being the group's 'whipping boys' yet again

Liverpool - Simply out of their depth. Too much expectation on them after a stunning (last) season which was never going to be repeatable when you replace one of the world's best forwards with Kevin the teenager (NSFW)

Playing down expectations and buying himself some leeway early on it looks like. Question is will he still be at the helm if United fail to reach top 4 (something that's still not impossible to think about). Considering the boatload of money spent and the financial ramifications.

I took the 3 months to be judge if there has been an improvement as a whole rather than the press' 'We'll be top or it is failure'. He's realised the time period mentioned was a mistake because of the way the media go about things in this country. The 3 years is about a team capable of winning both Premier and Champions leagues. If the periods are taken to be re the same matter, of course it looks like he is trying to buy time. It may be his intention to do as you say - thinking if that is what people believe, why not? The 3 years is bit short for Europe, 4 or 5 years seems to be the time needed to build a team - may be accounting for the money and his contract.

If they don't finish in the top 4, a lot will depend on how they are playing. If it is hopeless - Moyes - then it would be hard to bet on him being there next season. They have money, but it would be a waste of the Adidas contract.

Cheers,
OW

Everyone apart from Chelsea is flaky. Man City have spent too much to fail and Arsenal always make the top four no matter what. That leaves one spot. And unless Southampton can somehow keep their incredible momentum up, that spot will almost certainly go to United given the money they've spent. Liverpool look miles away at the moment, though if Sturridge ever gets healthy (and if Balo wakes up) they might make a push.

LVG said judge me after three months. He's being judged. Of course, that would have happened anyway, given the state of the sports media in the UK. Many Man Utd fans have only ever known perennial success, so this is a real bucket of cold water. But living with this kind of criticism is business as usual for most clubs.

Meanwhile, QPR are a joke, but you don't see anything in the papers about the abysmal job Redknapp is doing.

Well..at least LFC tried. Actually all of the big guns have tried but the gap in quality and belief is just too apparent. Arguably should've been a draw. Clear pen against Cahill but alas Refs have continued where they left off last season.

Funny enough Chelsea have now played all the big guns and come out unscathed. A big advantage cos they can just focus on sweeping the 'smaller teams' now until return fixtures.

Meanwhile the others still have to face each other.

Chelski's serene progress to the title continues. This was not a match where Liverpool could expect to make up ground. At least they didn't disgrace themselves.
