Some great play by both sides, but France found yet another gear today and deserved to win, even though Belgium created some great chances, especially early on. Actually both sides suffered from poor finishing today. This game should have had more goals

France are surely looking across to the other side of the draw and licking their chops....Neither England nor Croatia look capable of matching the French for skill and daring.

France's midfield - Pogba, Kante, MBappé, and Griezmann won the midfield battle today, forcing Belgium to attack up the flanks or deploy the odd longball.
I really think France will take it, whether they face England or Croatia.

Belgium didn't got up to earlier intensity.
Happens all the time when neighbor countries meet, that have played each other a 'few' times.
Pretty even in my view.
Congrats to France that pulled that off, and scored 1st and knew how to neutralize Belgium.

There's still time England to duff it - get knocked out by Croatia and there is a good chance Belgium could take them to the cleaners in the third place match....

What a disgrace of a match, way too much pushing than passing, France fell every time a Belgium player touch them, then Mpappe get concussed, the ref wanted him to pay on? The guy could not see, FIFA is way behind in head injury. Hazard drew many yellow cards in the second half but “play on”

Some idiot on TV said this was the greatest World Cup evah maybe advertising revenue wise, I beg to differ, the matches were not skillfully with a lot of bulling and pushing and refs confused over simple calls. France took over a minute to free kick a ball in extra time, that should have been added.
Courtios can not save anything infront of him, great keeper tho, I thought he should have stopped that goal.
Im not looking forward to the match tomorrow.

This is My last World Cup I’m going to watch, since 1978
Qatar is going to be worse with the heat, corruption, free invites to any contry with a federation, and November football all just so humans can make a lot of money.

wanted belgium to win instead of france :(
side note on another past match.....Pens is a better way to go out on a game versus not scoring a goal, pens are just a lottery #TruthBeTold

I think its the best WC in recent memory (except Bra vs Ger in 2014) ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. Because it actually gave the underdogs a chance to shine instead of the egos and it was more about teamwork than individual brilliance. France and Belgium both entertained, as did Russia, Croatia, Senegal etc.

I've enjoyed it compared to the usual Spanish tiki-taka or boring German utility/efficiency.

Players of the tournament for me are Kylian Mbappe and Raphael Varane. Both youngsters who became men on the biggest stage.

Wanted Belgium to win since Eng would have more of a chance. But as it stands its France's trophy to lose.

No way, the 2014 WC was the best

Many of them were never televised, so it's a pointless discussion in some ways - like a Messi vs Ronaldo debate.

I came into this with very negative feelings because of the way this World Cup was fraudulently awarded to Russia after collusion with Qatar and what has proved to be a criminally corrupt FIFA executive committee. And I haven't forgotten any of that.

But I think it's fair to say that the entertainment on the pitch has been of a very high standard.

Belgium may have won if they tried apart from pinning France to their side the entire time. Came strong, went like a lame horse.

In line with @Lord Blackadder 's post I present the following FIFA cartoon posted on my FB timeline:

Based - well ripped off - on a "Mafalda" comic (famous Argentinian comic strip about a very wise 6 year old girl) .

I translate for those of you who don't speak French. The book is clearly titled "Football" and the bubble reads "FIFA is a non-profit organisation".

De Bruyne, Tin Tin. Almost fell out of my chair laughing at that. So true! What a ****ing muppet he was today.

The ones in the 90’s were fun, the players were not primadonnas (they got up instantly when kicked) and the upsets were really upsets.
But the corruption was very blatant, Italy 90 was a farce on red cards and just unfair calls.

Anyway, what's the general feel about tomorrow's match? In my mind, England are to win, but Croatia has some great players and decent play. Would be nice to see England make it to the finals, though. There are many older folks who'd love to see another win for England at the finals who got to see the games in '66.

Had to watch this semi-final from the beach on my iPhone. Poor me right? It was a good game, and I thought France was the better team for 90’. I think Belgium looked flat on the attack other than Hazard. One of the players of the tournament. Look for England to meet France in the final.

I'm underwhelmed. I truly despise* the French team. Oh well.

I don't know why but I do, residual hate from the Zidane days?

I will take the beach and iPhone problem over my house and big tv any day of the week lol.

Oh not a fan of the French team? I really like Mbappé. Lot of fun to watch.

Funnily, Ive always had a soft spot for them ever since the Italians somewhat underhandedly beat them in the 2006 final. I was annoyed with the Thierry Henry handball in 2009, but their disastrous 2010 WC campaign was karmic punishment for that.

Think I just threw up a little.

A parabola of puke? Aimed appropriately, one hopes.

I'm not surprised that France found the gear they needed to win; they have always had the quality in their team, and, we have been so focussed on England on the one hand, and on the egos that crashed out (Spain, Portugal, Germany, Argentina, Brazil...) that we have probably failed to pay sufficiently close attention to France, which must suit them, too. They are a damned good team.
