Thats my take on him too. I'd rather we spent our money on players that you can almost guarantee will make 40 games a season.
We have enough malingerers as it is.

in fairness, I don't think that Jack Wilshere is a malingerer; rather, I think that he is exceptionally injury prone (Wenger was extremely understanding and supportive of him, but I think that Gareth Southgate made the right call when he declined to select him for the WC) and that purchasing him would be a considerable risk.

Same could be said of Andy Carrol, but we simply can't afford to pay for players sat in the treatment room who could be good on their day.

Well, that is West Ham's problem.

Arsenal's - if Jack Wilshere (who may well be surplus to requirements in the new regime, who - I suspect will have little of the sympathy, support or understanding for Jack Wilshere that Arsene Wenger showed for so long) remains, or is not sold on, is that he runs the risk - not only of suffering injury on a regular basis, but of becoming considered as the sort of player who "has a great future behind him."

Agreed. Of course if he can prove his injuries are behind him, he would probably be attracting the interest of clubs bigger than mine.

However we seem to be linked to a number of players, so I do sometimes wonder if these sports writers just make it up as they go along.

I think things will become clearer and more focussed in this regard after the WC; some clubs need to strengthen their squads, - and will need to identify what needs to be done - but others - such as Arsenal - will perhaps wish to imprint on the players that things may change considerably in the near future now that New Brooms are in charge.

Mexico are so close to beating Germany. Only caught the last half hour, but a great game.

Wow.

Germany (the defending champions) defeated in their opening game against a Mexican team that turned up for a contest.

Brazil and Germany might play each other on the next round... That could be a fun match even more so on an early stage.

Bah, skipped the last two games to hang with the kids. Glad I skipped them. Memories over anything else. Cheers to all the other fathers and those who can't be with theirs today.

Yes, I, too, am a fan of the underdog.

Me too - except when Mexico is the underdog. My desire to see them lose is purely sporting, but I don’t buy into this movement for USA fans to support them. They are our biggest rivals.

Mexico’s counterattacking plan bore fruit against a German side that were partly flat, partly unlucky. I disagree with those pundits who claimed Mexico ‘dominated’ parts of the match (I heard some of that on FS1 in the post match analysis). They defended pretty stoutly, created a few good counterattacks and scored on one, and had a slice of luck. Germany tried to force their way through a crowded middle zone and were too eager to shoot when a more patient approach using more width, and one that utilized their height advantage with crosses, would have served them better.

It’s a symbolically huge win for Mexico, but from a German perspective it’s the least important match they will play in this tournament - and despite not playing all that well they should have at least drawn it. As for Mexico, South Korea and Sweden will not press them like the Germans did, so I expect they will find it harder to get behind those defenses with longballs and threaded passes.

And sometimes, in the WC, the Germans have started slowly - even risked an occasional loss, and then gradually built up some steady steam the longer the competition progresses.

So many of my good friends that I play with and have coached are from Mexico.
I know who our biggest rival is, usually for me it's *sshats who try tell me who our biggest rival is.
Love to see them win and for my friends to be happy.

I <3 Chich.
I<3 CR7.

No apologies.

Also I've had enough of Germany winning. I hope France never wins another match.

Go Belgium!
Go Iceland!
Go Mexico!
