explore the idea of a rule where a player down with a head injury can be temporarily substituted while being assessed for concussion.

I'd be all for it except that one of the most awful things of soccer - which is even more true in modern soccer - is how much they fake injuries. If there is one element that separated me from watching the game as I used to (I was kinda obsessed), that's the one. Now when I watch a game, it's totally infuriating to me it almost sucks the enjoyment out.
This is to say that if they were to allow such a rule we'd see many temporary headaches on the field.

Allowing 5 substitutes per game will certainly help teams like Liverpool who have a bigger squad. I’d be surprised if they aren’t crowned champions before the end of the month.

I think that soccer should change subs too. I'd go for 2 full substitutions (as it is now); and 4 15-mins substitutions (player can re-enter after 15 minutes, can happen only once per subbed player).

Yes, I think we all can recall the dramatic - and sometimes, absurdly graceful balletic - collapses followed by suspiciously rapid recovery once some sort of penalty was imposed on the opposing team. And agreed, they do the game no good, whatsoever.

But, the excruciating agony of real injuries tends to look obvious, and, candidly, with head injuries, I would always prefer to err on the side of caution.

Eric Garcia's head injury this past Wednesday - even though inadvertently caused by a Manchester City team-mate - looked absolutely horrific.

Head injuries?

A 1-1 draw is not really a great result for either Spurs or Man Utd. Mou is to blame for sitting on a slim lead, as he always does. Still, both teams looked a bit rusty, which is understandable (though Man City sure didn't on Wedneday).

I think the safety benfits to athletes outweigh the potential for abuse of the rule. And anyway, the sub would only last as long as it took for a medical person to assess the injury.

I think, in the long term, it's something that players could be accustomed to take seriously.

More atrocious defending by Arsenal.

In the 95th minute, they have conceded yet another goal, and, to add insult to injury, it was scored by Maupay - who should have been booked, at the very least (if not sent off) for the sly and nasty charge - which he committed on Leno (who was in the air with the ball gathered, and landed badly, knocked off balance) earlier.

So, 2-1 to Brighton.

I think I preferred lockdown.

Arsenal are having absolutely rotten luck with injuries, though their defending continues to be so bad, even with their "best" defenders, that they are usually the architects of their own downfall. You can't be leaking two goals to Brighton & Hove Albion and still think you are Champions League material - CL clubs will tear you to shreds. Great goal from Pepe though.

Surprised Maupay wasn't booked for his challenge on Leno, to be sure. Charging into someone who is already airborne is dangerous. They don't tolerate that in rugby, so you'd think that would have been at least a yellow. The fact that he scored the winner really rubs salt into the wound. It's going to be a rough run-in for Arsenal.

Agreed, re the rotten luck with injures.

However, usually, that sort of cluster of injuries comes at the end of a long season, when players are tired, and have played too many games over a prolonged period of time.

With the three month break (yes, they were training), I am surprised that they appear to be so vulnerable.

Re the injury to Leno, as you have pointed out, charging into someone who is airborne - when you have no chance whatsoever of winning the ball - is dangerous, and will lead either to nothing, - as you can't win the ball from a goalkeeper who has already gathered - or an injury.

Certainly, it should give rise to a yellow card at the very least.

Arsenal are nowhere near Champion's League material at the moment, and won't be, until they sort out that defence.

However, Leno is an excellent goalkeeper - who has been ill served by his defence since he joined the club, - and a grave injury would be a personal tragedy and a serious loss to Arsenal.

A dull match at West Ham so far, but both teams need a win for different reasons, so hopefully we see things pick up in the second half. West Ham will be happy with the clean sheet so far but they do also need to score.

Agreed we need the points but a draw against Wolves would be a decent start.

Everton will feel they got the better result today. It was an impressive defensive performance against an admittedly misfiring Liverpool and they even had three really good chances to score. They probably should have scored two of them but Richarlison didn't quite have the skill to finish them.

Liverpool looked rusty initially but grew into the match. Not a terrible performance but they just didn't have the sharpness to break Everton down. Salah and Roberston were missed, and the injuries to Milner and Matip are worrying. With matches coming fast, injured players will miss more matches than usual and Liverpool could end up with a suboptimal starting XI against Crystal Palace - a match I consider a huge potential banana skin. Also, Liverpool won't beat Man City in the following match either - not in City's current form. City are the only team so far who look unaffected by the pause.

Probably the least memorable Merseyside Derby I've ever watched?

But with your squad a few injuries shouldn’t be a massive issue. You’ll still be crowned champions before too long.

I'm sure most of you have seen this already, but a plane flew over the Etihad bearing a startlingly offensive slogan, ostensibly created by a Burnley fan or fans, mocking the Black Lives Matter movement. Burnely have released a statement condemning the banner. Possibly the first time I saw a club release a statement about an incident that happened during the match while the match was still being played?

Meanwhile, Burnley are getting their pants pulled down, it's 4-0 at the moment. I'd say this is karmic, but the result is really nothing less than most of us expected anyway I imagine.

Make that 5. I don't think it will end there either. Man City look strong. But you'll still lift the trophy in front of an empty stand at some point!

If I got to lift the trophy I'd be pretty excited, even in an empty stadium.

City are miles ahead of Liverpool in terms of attacking form, based on the (admittedly small) sample of matches we've seen so far.
They've hit form at the right time. But the points amassed earlier in the season by Liverpool will see them through. Though on current form they aren't doing great! But 4 more draws and you'll be safe. I'm sure you'll get a win or two in there as well. Hopefully against our relegation rivals!

Yes, I did see that; appalling, and very pleased to see Burnley's prompt response and condemnation.

They needed to release it rapidly, - and make it completely clear that they disassociated themselves entirely from the stunt and sentiment expressed on the banner, as it also referred to "Burnley" (and one could infer that it may have had the club's tacit support had they not moved swiftly to condemn it).

Yes, Manchester City are superb, at the moment, but Liverpool should have more than enough remaining in the tank to stumble over the line - and lift the Premer League trophy (granted, in an otherwise empty stadium) someday soon, over the next few games.
